Practice Innovation Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to Technology Innovation Senior Leadership, the Practice Innovation Manager will work with the IS Management Team and Firm Leadership to help define and implement Winston & Strawn's enterprise data analytics and AI strategy. Assists in identification and implementation of innovative technology solutions within the Firm. Assists in championing current and "next generation" technologies, such as predictive modeling, natural language processing (NLP), large language models (LLM), and machine learning to advance and optimize firm practice areas and administrative departments. Serves as a designated liaison between the Information Services Department (IS) and administrative and practice teams. Provides industry thought leadership to raise awareness around the firm's innovative uses of technology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifies, researches, develops, and implements technology solutions that improve workflow efficiency, enhance client service, and increase firm profitability.
  • Collaborates with attorneys and professional staff to evaluate the user experience of new technologies, identify use cases, and assess return on investment.
  • Works with cross-functional teams and external service providers following firm solution integration and delivery processes.
  • Consults with and advises the firm's attorneys, Winston Legal Solutions, and professional staff on analytics, AI, and legal technology solutions.
  • Serves as a Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) for attorneys and professional staff, getting to know their business and respective challenges and being a primary point of contact for their technology needs.
  • Actively manages vendor relationships and guides new technologies and services through the evaluation and approval phases of the firm's technology lifecycle.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging technologies in the legal industry and beyond.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (Must be listed on resume to be considered):

  • BA or BS in Business, Computer Science, MIS, Informatics, Data Science, or demonstrated minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in technology, legal or consulting required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business analysis and/or project management required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience evaluating legal AI practice technologies and services required.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Expert-level understanding of the use of advanced data analytics in the practice and business of law
  • Experience with practice/business process improvement and automation
  • Experience with formal change management processes and procedures
