Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,300 - $4,600 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,713 - $7,149 per month
  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the direction of the Information Security Officer, the incumbent works to perform ongoing Cloud, network, server, and desktop computer security monitoring and vulnerability assessments to detect, prevent, minimize and control identified system security risks and vulnerabilities. Supports implementation, configuration, and maintenance, physical and virtual tools to mitigate risk to the university and its computing endpoints. Other duties include Information Security Team responsibilities such as developing firewall rules, analyzing metrics, examining issues and reporting results.

The position is required to monitor the trouble ticket system for questions/problems needing immediate response during business hours. A strong commitment to customer service, quality workmanship, and continuous technical improvement are essential to the position.

Key Qualifications
  • Knowledge of information security practices and concepts, including intrusion vulnerability scanning.
  • Basic understanding of networks, desktop computing, and common software applications.
  • Direct experience providing technical support to customers.
  • Demonstrated experience with vulnerability management tools.
  • Experience supporting users on academic technology, software, and equipment.
  • Good written, verbal, and listening communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate concepts to others as well as critical thinking and analytical skills are needed to work effectively with a wide variety of staff, outside consultants, and vendors.
  • Excellent documentation, analytical and process-oriented skills.
  • Ability to:
    • Work with a high level of accountability and follow-through with emphasis on delivering timely results.
    • Investigate information security events discreetly.
    • Maintain data security and integrity by developing system access standards and procedures.
    • Identify and implement critical maintenance fixes and to isolate and correct malfunctions, including interface problems.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and ability to collaborate across organizational lines.
  • Effectively organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.

Education and Experience
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field; additional relevant experience can be substituted for academic work.
  • Two years of experience as an Information Security Analyst, IT Customer Service Analyst, or Technology Consultant Analyst supporting technical information systems.
    • Preferred Skills:
      • Training in information security and security certifications, such as CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner are strongly desired.
      • Experience with next-generation firewalls, such as those from Palo Alto Networks.
      • Experience with log aggregation tools, such as Splunk or LogRhythm.
      • Experience with vulnerability management tools such as Qualys or Tenable.
      • Experience with Pen testing tools such as Kali Linux or Metasploit.
      • Experience with Cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.
      • Experience in a higher education environment or a large complex organization.
      • Excellent emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
