DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW UC Legal - Office of the General Counsel (UCL) provides legal services to the university, including representation, advice, research and training. We also provide legal opinions to the Board of Regents, administration, faculty, staff and others acting on the university's behalf. We report jointly to the Board of Regents and the president. POSITION SUMMARY This fellowship is expected to commence on or after September 9, 2024. The University of California UC Legal - Office of General Counsel (OGC), Health Affairs, Privacy & Data Protection (HAPDP) Group, offers a two-year full-time fellowship to a recent graduate of an accredited law school or recent recipient of a related advanced degree who is interested in exploring a career in the areas of health affairs, privacy, or cybersecurity law. In particular, we welcome law school graduates or other related advanced degree recipients who have a strong academic record, excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the ability to think creatively. We also prefer that the Fellow has shown interest and/or prior experience in the areas of health affairs, privacy or cybersecurity law such as through coursework or prior work experience. Under the supervision of OGC HAPDP attorneys, the Fellow will conduct legal research; draft documents; attend client meetings, hearings, and negotiations, as appropriate and possible; and participate in other activities intended to expose the Fellow to the practice of law and substance of OGC HAPDP's specialties. Within the specialty of health affairs law, the Fellow would focus on issues ranging from health care transactions, reimbursement and regulation, fraud and abuse and internal investigations, and privacy. The Fellow would have the opportunity to work both at OGC and with attorneys at the campuses and medical centers. Travel Requirements SPECIAL CONDITIONS This position has been approved for a hybrid work arrangement. The person hired must reside in California and will be required to report to work on-site at UC's Office of the President located in Oakland, CA at least two days per week.
