The Role

The responsibilities of the Production Equipment Technician is to conduct maintenance, operation, and repair of facility and production equipment with minimal supervision required. This position performs routine maintenance as well as emergency repair of equipment and components. This position requires taking ownership of assignments directed at improving total operating efficiency, minimizing equipment downtime, and improving internal processes. This position is to ensure that documents such as validations and PMs are accurate, completed timely, and up to date for the assigned equipment and processes.

This role is located in Athens, Ohio.

The Responsibilities
  • Maximize process equipment availability/performance/quality to achieve business objectives.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs equipment used in manufacturing, laboratory, and packaging areas.

  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals, schematics, and electrical drawings to perform required maintenance and service.

  • Applies safety procedures to all work performed.

  • Responds to trouble calls from Production Operators aiding with equipment failures, set-up, material change-out, and basic operations.

  • Performing routine preventative maintenance on production lines as defined.

  • Identifies opportunities and supports continuous improvement efforts.

  • Responds to and documents internal alarms from the "Process Alarm System" supporting Facilities Engineering to ensure that facilities equipment and systems are sustained within production requirements.

  • Ensures proper spare part inventory levels by performing regular counts, setting parts up in ERP system, and vendor replenishment.

  • Assist with employee development / technical training of peers and other site personnel.

  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled on manufacturing equipment.

  • Maintain company procedures and records per company standards.

  • Generate and update documentation for manufacturing engineering.

  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relatable work experience in a maintenance role working with electrical systems (up to 480 volts)

  • Refrigerant License, or the ability to successfully obtain a refrigerant license within six months of employment

  • Experience with compressed air manifolds and general shop/machining equipment

  • Should have a strong knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems

  • Experience working in a high paced manufacturing environment

  • Basic computer skills including, file management, MS Word, Internet, and Email, required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Technical Degree or equivalent experience in related field

  • Minimum of 1 year experience with installation, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience with automated production equipment and/or PLC and Machine Programming in a GMP environment

  • Experience with Lyophilization equipment

  • Understanding of automation controls such as Programmable Logic Controllers, servo motors and drives, as well as vision systems

  • Knowledge of QSR/ISO 13485

  • Ability to work within a self-directed work team environment

  • Experience working in combination with Engineering on projects

The Work Environment

Must be able to walk, climb ladders, stoop, kneel, and crawl as needed. Must have adequate vision correctable by regular corrective lenses to perform tasks related to color coded electrical wiring and/or troubleshooting. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from the ground to 4 feet, required. Must be willing to travel occasionally as needed for training and/or development opportunities.
