Purpose of Position

Interpret complex accounting standards, rules, and regulations; analyze the implications of the regulations and implement the necessary operations and controls to prepare a consolidated annual financial report.

Essential Functions

  • Operational compliance: Maintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of government accounting standards and all associated relevant policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the submission, to various state government agencies, of an annual financial report.
  • Information and Business Advice: Provides specialized guidance on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures pertaining to complex accounting issues and regulations.
  • Ensures Accountability: Holds self and others accountable to meet commitments specific to required monthly financial and accounting reporting and the end of year submission of the annual financial reporting requirements.
  • Data Management: Manages basic aspects of the accounting and financial reporting systems with guidance from senior leadership. This includes being responsible for maintaining accounting systems and making recommendations and leading the implementation of any potential system enhancements.
  • Insights and Reporting: Prepares and coordinates the completion of various complex data and analytic reports.
  • Financial Management and Control: Work with the established systems to deliver prescribed outcomes for a specialized area of financial reporting and ensures compliance with accounting standards.
  • Manages Complexity: Makes sense of highly complex accounting information to effectively solve problems and implement specific policies and procedures.
  • Tech Savvy: Anticipates and adopts innovations in recommending and implementing technology applications that will address complex accounting standards, which includes investigating technologies that enhances cutting edge best practices in accounting standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field and 7 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting is required.

One year of college over the required minimum (Bachelor's Degree) may be substituted for one year of the required experience on a year-for-year basis, allowing up to a maximum of 2 years of substituted experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experienced in implementing accounting systems across highly matrixed organizations that align with highly complex accounting regulations.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

A background check will be conducted on candidates under final consideration.
