PMA Companies' In-House Counsel seeks an experienced defense litigation Paralegal for our Harrisburg Law Office. In this position, utilize your legal experience to perform related duties supporting litigation attorneys.

Essential Functions



  • Accurately handles a moderate caseload of routine assignments in an efficient manner
  • Schedule depositions, monitor hearing calendar, meetings and general meetings for claim assigned attorneys
  • Assist with discovery (obtaining subpoenas, responding to discovery requests
  • Manage attorney calendars, scheduling needs and resolution of scheduling conflicts
  • Generate correspondence including letters, memos, pleadings and other documents from dictaphone or handwritten documents
  • Maintain and retrieve files on diary for attorneys and ensure files are organized and in order at all times
  • Answers telephones and assisting clients and callers accordingly to their individual needs
  • Effectively operate general office equipment and assist in opportunities to further develop office automation
  • Strong verbal, written communication skills and customer service skills gained through previous work experience
  • Computer literacy, including working knowledge of MS Office Product Suite, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with litigation management software ( Timeslips, Practice Manager) a plus


  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Minimum seven years related paralegal experience; workers' compensation background is preferred
  • Previous experience with WCAIS preferred
  • Proficient typing and dictation skills, minimum typing speed of 65WPM preferred
  • Excellent transcription skills required
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of local and state rules regarding pleadings and discovery formats, deadlines and filing requirements
  • Familiar with court structures, vendors and other legal resources
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Possess basic understanding of legal and medical terminology
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision and follow-up on outstanding issues/assignments
  • Strong command of grammar, punctuation, spelling and proofreading skills
