Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $4,170 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,170 - $7,545 per month
  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Lead Systems Analyst and the Associate Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Financial Aid Systems Specialist provides technical and operational support for the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. This position is part of a systems team and assists with providing development, maintenance, and documentation of the system processes. This is a vital position in the Financial Aid & Scholarships office, which also works collaboratively with a variety of University departments and their systems. Active participation in relevant committees/user group/list serves enhances this role. The Financial Aid Systems Specialist must combine a high level of information systems competencies with financial aid regulatory requirements.

Key Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of processes that ensure data integrity, compliance, and adequate internal controls.
  • Working knowledge of administration of technology processes to be able to support campus needs and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in and knowledge of computing systems and automated environments.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques to develop conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency of computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google apps, and database management).
  • Skill/Ability to:
    • Assess, formulate, and evaluate the impact of recommended or implemented policies from a strategic and operational perspective.
    • Participate in planning and development activities and recommend methods to meet programmatic or administrative goals.
    • Skill in the research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
    • Ability to interpret and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures relating to and impacting financial aid.
    • Independent determination of approaches to project and priorities. Work is reviewed against overall goals and objectives, with full accountability for results.
    • Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
    • Use appreciable ingenuity and innovation to conceive new approaches and solutions to address complex problems and issues.
    • Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations.
    • Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus.
    • Interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and in a team-oriented environment.
    • Ability to organize and plan work and projects including handling multiple priorities.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for the organizational unit.
    • Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications.
    • Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.

Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of one year of professional administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
    • Preferred Skills:
      • Demonstrated expertise in collecting, evaluating, interpreting, and analyzing data.
      • High level of independent problem solving, active decision making, judgment, and technical skills.
      • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office including Microsoft Excel, and Word.
      • Experience with PeopleSoft CampusSolutions.
      • Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) for relational database systems as well as PeopleTools.
      • Knowledge of financial aid regulations.
