As we continue to develop innovative medicines for those with CNS disorders, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Director to serve as a Medical Affairs franchise lead overseeing certain assets within the broader CNS TA portfolio Medical Affairs (both US and Global), with a specialization in Psychiatry. Accountable for a subset of assigned assets within the CNS TA which align to the broader overall TA strategy determined by the Executive Director, CNS TA lead.

Position Summary: The Senior Director, Franchise Lead, Global Medical Affairs - CNS Psychiatry will be responsible for developing and executing the strategic vision for a select group of assigned assets within our CNS Psychiatry TA portfolio. This key role will report to the CNS Therapeutic Head, Global Medical Affairs. Assets under this person's responsibilities may include treatments for several serious illnesses with unmet needs both on market and in various stages of development. This leadership role will involve managing a team of Medical Affairs strategy personnel and collaborating with cross-functional teams, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of asset level medical affairs strategies, ultimately driving the development and commercialization of treatments in the CNS Psychiatry space. The position will oversee both US and Global Medical strategies and plans. At Otsuka we do not have separate Global and US Medial Affairs teams and this would be a great fit for someone who is experienced in both and would enjoy overseeing both regional and global Medical Affairs plans for assigned assets and is driven to move the needle in Medical Affairs and CNS.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Aligning to the therapeutic strategy developed by the Global Medical Affairs TA lead, develop and drive the strategic vision for the respective assigned assets

  • May represent Medical Affairs at certain US and Global governance meetings

  • The Franchise Lead will work closely with other US and Global franchise or asset specific cross functional leads, and will pull through the CNS TA strategy as determined by the Executive Director, CNS TA lead

  • Will be responsible for ensuring development of medical strategic plans based on unmet needs and medical value proposition

  • Responsible for development of TRPPs (target reimbursable product profiles) for any assigned assets in development

Franchise Management:

  • Lead and manage assigned subset of team members working on the assigned assets within the broader TA providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

  • Ensures the resources are justified and sufficient across assigned programs and act as escalation for staff members related to assigned asset strategy and resource allocation.

  • Oversee the development and execution of US and Global medical affairs plans and initiatives for assigned assets that is aligned with and compliments the overall TA strategy developed by the Executive Director, CNS TA Lead.

  • Assist in lifecycle management initiatives and planning for assigned assets as applicable

  • Ensure insights into assigned clinical development programs to guide TRPP optimization

  • Serve as escalation for promotional review and medical review of external facing US materials related to assigned assets.

Stakeholder engagement:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders, academic institutions, and medical/advocacy societies within the assigned disease areas within the CNS TA

  • Act as a company representative and advocate in relevant medical and scientific communities for specific assigned areas within the TA

  • Engages with a network of international scientific leaders and other key stakeholders (therapeutic guideline committees, payers, public groups, government officials, medical societies) about Our Company's emerging science.

  • Ensure peer relations within Otsuka across functions at appropriate leadership levels (Clin Dev, Translational Medicine, Global and US Marketing, Global Value and Real World Evidence, etc)

Scientific and Medical Affairs Expertise:

  • Will be an expert in US and global healthcare landscape for assigned areas. Knowledge and experience with the US healthcare system and regulatory landscape is required for this role.

  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements, research, and publications within the assigned disease areas which will include schizophrenia, mood disorders, general anxiety disorder

  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing medical and scientific insights to internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Stay abreast of latest evolutions in Medical Affairs trends and help franchise and department to continuously adapt and stay ahead; educate other members of the team to help their growth

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with other key functions, including regional medical leads, clinical development, global value and real-world evidence, US and global commercial teams, market access, and regulatory affairs, to ensure integrated global strategies and cohesive medical affairs strategies and input into cross functional leadership meetings and plans.

Requirements:

  • Medical Doctor (MD), PhD or PharmD candidates with significant experience in CNS Psychiatry.

  • Must have US Medical Affairs experience in addition to Global Medical Affairs experience

  • Must have worked on programs in development (either within Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, or Clinical Development)

  • Demonstrated experience in translational medicine or early phase development and life cycle management strategy preferred (required for early assets role)

  • Must have knowledge of applicable US regulations

  • Minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 3 years of leadership experience in medical affairs strategy or related roles. Product launch experience preferred, especially in US

  • Proven track record in CNS Psychiatry

  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing teams.

  • Strong strategic mindset with the ability to translate insights into actionable plans.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including KOLs.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a proactive and problem-solving mindset.

Minimum $225,490.00 - Maximum $337,180.00, plus incentive opportunity: The range shown represents a typical pay range or starting salary for candidates hired to perform the work.
