Pay Range: $100,000.00 - 142,000.00

JOB SUMMARY:

The Quality Manager is responsible for a variety of tasks including supporting customer service and production personnel to make sure all products meet consistent standards. This is achieved by providing statistical quality data, managing ISO, inspection and test lab activities, and supervising Quality department staff.

Other primary duties and responsibilities include the following; however, Management reserves the right to assign or reassign other appropriate duties to this job at any time. This document excludes the marginal functions of the position that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties.



  • Follow all safety guidelines and participate as fully-empowered team member to achieve organization-wide goal of zero incidents.
  • Manages the day-to-day and long-term activities of the QA team to ensure that the department is aligned with and can fully support the goals, objectives, and strategy of the plant and the company.
  • Drives the plant's continuous improvement efforts from the quality perspective. Pro-actively identifies potential problems and opportunities for improvement and implements robust corrective or preventive actions. Determines financial exposure of non-conforming materials and finds suitable alternative uses when possible.
  • Performs product inspection and audits products and/or systems for conformance to standard.
  • Visits and confers with representatives of material and component vendors to obtain information related to supply quality, capacity of vendor to meet orders, and vendor quality standards. Works with suppliers to make sure purchased components meet and exceed the established specifications.
  • Assists in problem identification, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation utilizing Lean methodologies.
  • Performs laboratory tests and/or experiments as required.
  • In absence of Quality Engineer position, may operate requisite laboratory equipment and instruments; records data; maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment.
  • Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • The QA manager is responsible for the plant's Document Control function (including ISO 9000, 14000, and 18000), and the overall quality compliance of the facility.
  • Interacts effectively with other parts of the organization, such as product and process engineering, R&D, EH&S, and QA personnel from other manufacturing sites. Works collaboratively with other functional areas to make sure that best practices and methods are shared and adopted throughout the organization.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Directly supervises Quality Lab Technicians, ISO Coordinator, Quality Engineer, or other departmental staff.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Demonstrated experience with initiation, successful registration and compliance audits with ISO 9001.
  • Detail oriented and data driven.
  • Master of People Management, to include demonstrated experience with associate career development, performance management, team building, conflict resolution, recognition, and discipline. Demonstrated experience supporting organizational mission and values via a "lead by example" methodology.
  • Advanced knowledge of PC usage required to include using the Microsoft Office Suite.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree in business or other related field is highly preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years managing associates and Quality Assurance department within a manufacturing organization.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing required.


  • Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present technical information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and co-workers.
  • Expert math skills are needed to include the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.


  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control. Ability to use SPC to analyze data and drive root cause analysis and process improvements. (Minitab statistical software knowledge is a plus).


  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
