Job Description

Do you want to lead projects that directly impact patient care and operational efficiency? We need you! We are seeking a Data Scientist/Business Intelligence Analyst who has strong technical skills, is adept at applying them to real-world problems, and is comfortable communicating complex topics to non-technical audiences. By leveraging your analytical and communication skills, you will partner with senior hospital leadership to understand and optimize operations across MSK's clinical enterprise. By helping MSK leadership better serve our patients and employees, you will contribute to our legacy of innovation with lasting impact and help us achieve our mission of ending cancer for life.

You will:

Serve as a critical thought partner to senior leadership in Hospital Administration.
  • Translate ambiguous business problems into a structured set of questions that can be answered analytically.
  • Develop metrics, analyses, and tools that shed light on our operations and facilitate smooth coordination across different groups.
  • Effectively communicate your findings with your business partners; collaboratively identify key opportunities, and translate those into a clear, actionable data strategy.
  • Manage analytical projects from "question to answer", including problem framing, data collection and validation, exploratory analysis, statistical modeling, visualization, synthesis, and ongoing maintenance of reusable tools

Sample Projects:

  • We want to find ways to reduce wait times for patients in our outpatient facilities. How can we use data to identify bottlenecks and pain points in our outpatient operations? What data driven improvements can we identify? How do we know if our interventions are working?
  • We need to supply our providers with all of the resources they need to give our patients the best care possible without generating unnecessary overheard. Based on our patient volumes, how much office support should we supply to our different providers and locations?

You have:

  • 4-7 years of experience using analytics and data science to impact key business decisions
  • Deep comfort working in relational database and SQL
  • Proficiency using R (preferred) or Python to create reproducible data analyses
  • The ability to develop production grade dashboards using Tableau, Shiny, Power BI etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to choose the right technical approach for a question (from a statistical model to a dashboard and everything in between) and know that the simplest solution is often the best
  • Curiosity, self motivation, and a strong desire to use your technical skills to help improve experiences and outcomes for MSK Patients and staff.
