With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.

At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Fred Hutch is in pursuit of becoming an anti-racist organization. We are committed to ensuring that all candidates hired share our commitment to diversity, anti-racism and inclusion.

A Research Tech I position is available in the Parkhurst lab at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. A hallmark of many diseases and cancers is a dysfunctional cytoskeleton. A properly functioning cytoskeleton is needed for a wide variety of cellular events ranging from cell shape to cell signaling and migration/metastasis. The Parkhurst lab uses multidisciplinary approaches to study dynamic cytoskeleton processes in the regulation of normal developmental events and when mis-regulated in diseases/cancer.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate interested in studying wound repair using the Drosophila model system. Additional information about the research in the Parkhurst lab can be found at:

https://research.fredhutch.org/parkhurst/en.html

This is an ideal position for a recent enthusiastic graduate who wants to gain an intense research experience before pursuing graduate school and/or MD-PhD.

Responsibilities

The research tech will primarily carry out an independent research project that involves cell biology, developmental genetics, and molecular biology. Other responsibilities include general lab maintenance (ordering, caring for Drosophila flies, fly media preparation), and other duties as needed. We are looking for candidates that can thrive in a fast paced environment, that value teamwork, that support diversity, and who are great communicators.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS in a scientific field required. Must have scientific knowledge in study and basic laboratory skills.
  • Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience is usually necessary.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Good quantitative skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Reliability is essential.
  • To be successful in this position, the technician must have scientific curiosity, a high level of self-motivation, the ability to take instruction and correction and to follow directions, good organizational skills, the ability to work and think independently, and wants to stay at least two years.
  • Must be able to distinguish different intensities and hues of red color.

Please apply with a CV/resume, contact info for 2-3 references, and a cover letter for why you are specifically interested in this position.

A statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through your work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.21 to $31.61 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
