OVERVIEW:

The Day Camp Youth Support staff is an opportunity to develop professional skills and experience directly working with youth under the leadership of their teaching team and the supervision of the Education Manager. Youth Support staff are responsible for supporting academic instruction and project-based learning in the Summer Day Camp Program, along with some administrative and office duties. The goal is to create a joyful learning environment to address learning loss and support an easier transition back to school.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Collaborate with the assigned teaching team, to provide instruction from a strengths-based approach
  • Closely work with Day Camp Teachers and Day Camp Associates to design, plan, and implement lesson plans in/outside the classroom
  • Support the implementation of behavior support plans in/outside the classroom
  • Assist and actively participate in all Summer Day Camp Programming such as enrichments, lessons, field trips, cleaning, and/or meals
  • Actively participate and support the integration of social-emotional learning activities
  • Report possible cases of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment to proper leadership
  • Other related duties as required


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Currently a sophomore or junior in high school (freshman candidates may apply with strong recommendations)
  • Interest in teaching or working with youth with a positive attitude
  • Knowledge of SFUSD or urban learning environment
  • Experience in creative arts, DIYs, STEM, or sports


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to be assertive
  • Team player
  • Ability to receive and apply feedback
  • Ability to be professional with all students, families, and staff


EQUIPMENT USED:



  • Google Suite, Outlook, and Microsoft Suite and Relevant Software
  • Modern-day technology and machinery


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (Usually file boxes)
