Verification Specialist

General Summary of Position:

The Verification Specialist is responsible for all aspects of the financial aid application verification process. S/he acts as a subject matter expert on federal and institutional financial aid policies and procedures and consistently applies eligibility requirements to all students to ensure proper approval of funds. The Verification Specialist performs a variety of duties necessary to support the delivery of financial aid to students including communicating with students and parents regarding the verification process and other eligibility issues as well as using knowledge of financial aid compliance to make independent decisions that result in accurate awards.

The Verification Specialist will process paper financial aid documents into the Document Imaging system and provide support with the preparation, maintenance, archiving, and removal of financial aid records in accordance with federal and state retention regulations. Ensures student records are maintained within FERPA guidelines for protection of student privacy. Possibilities for hybrid/remote work available.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):



  • Bachelor's degree plus 1-2 years financial aid experience, in lieu of Bachelor's degree, consideration will be given to those with HS Diploma or GED/equivalent and 3-5 years of related financial aid experience
  • Thorough knowledge of federal financial aid regulations
  • Thorough knowledge of the verification process and regulations is preferred
  • Effective oral, written, listening and communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and record keeping


Additional Considerations:



  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Functional experience with a Document Imaging/Perceptive Content System preferred
  • Functional experience with a report writing tool preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and public communications skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as needed
  • Understanding of technology to deliver student financial aid


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Functional experience with an integrated Student Information Systems required; expertise with PeopleSoft Student Administration System preferred
  • Functional experience with a Campus Logic/Student Forms and Document Imaging System preferred
