Position Summary

Rosalind Franklin University Health Clinics is seeking to fill a full-time Medical Assistant/Licensed Practical Nurse position. This role is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. The Medical Assistant role will provide information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the services and convey a positive image. He/she may be assigned to specific medical specialty (e.g. Podiatry) to help with patient care related to that specialty.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include:
    • Monitoring and assisting with daily schedules to enhance patient flow
    • Accompany patients to examination or treatment room
    • Interviewing patients
    • Measure vital signs
    • Update patient information and changes in medical history
    • Prepare patient for examination and/or treatment
    • Assisting patients with ambulation and transfers
    • Specimen collection
    • Venipunctures
    • Administers medications/vaccines
    • Performs screenings per provider guidelines
    • Assisting providers with various procedures
    • Charting
    • Relaying instructions to patients/families
  • Fulfill clerical/administrative responsibilities as assigned which may include:
    • Manages office telephone systems, including answering calls and returning messages
    • Scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments
    • Sending/receiving patient medical records
    • Obtaining lab/imaging and other reports, hospital notes
    • Processes prior authorizations, appeals, referral information, etc.
    • Completes forms/requisitions as needed
    • Verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics
    • Maintains patient chart
    • Completes and safeguards medical records
    • Completes diagnostic coding and procedure coding
    • Supports Xray/radiological imaging
    • Instrument decontamination/sterilization, and procedure set-up needs
  • Fulfill environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include:
    • Managing and maintaining clinical supply inventory
    • Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol
    • Cleaning exam/procedure rooms
    • Maintain infection control
    • Performs sterile instrument processing and maintains sterilizer and associated quality requirements
    • Maintains comprehensive records
    • Supports inventory management through ordering sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms
  • Fulfill organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include:
    • Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established clinical procedures
    • Complying with legal regulations, and supporting a collaborative team environment
    • Respects/promotes patient rights
    • Providing patient centered care
    • Responds appropriately to urgent/emergent situations; keeping immediate supervisor(s) informed of problems relating to patients and/or staff.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned or delegated

Conditions of Employment

  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check.

Required Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of medical assisting program with CMS or RMS certification in good standing
  • Maintain BLS certification

  • Knowledge of health care field and medical specialty.
  • Exemplary skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communication.

  • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical specialty.
  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.

  • Skill in understanding of patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.

  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate techniques when helping patients ambulate and dress and the ability to handle stressful situations are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of recent experience in a medical office in a similar capacity.
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Bi-lingual.
