Director, U.S. Disaster Coordination

The Director of U.S. Disaster Coordination will provide leadership and support to the U.S. affiliated network and Habitat for Humanity International teams related to emergency, crisis and disaster coordination and support. This position will lead disaster coordination efforts while strategically and practically evaluating, designing, and executing operational enhancements to the support functions related to headquarters-to-network coordination.

This position is highly collaborative and cross-functional as is necessary to consistently reinforce team structures related to emergency, crisis and disaster coordination and support. This role requires relationship-building within internal and external networks to create partnerships that support, aid, and enhance U.S. Habitat for Humanity work and enterprise-wide collaboration.

This position will lead work directly connected to most U.S. Office teams, many HFHI global teams, and specifically, the global Disaster Risk, Reduction and Response team. This connection will provide context on strategies, programs, services, and affiliated network perspectives within the global Habitat for Humanity structure (including the Pathways to Permanence strategy).

This position can be based remotely within the U.S. requiring 15% travel, and will be for a term of 2 years.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • As needed ~40%: Lead U.S. disaster coordination and related U.S. affiliate services.
    • Manage Disaster Readiness Manager position in all coordination activities.
    • Coordinate and execute awareness messaging to staff, leadership notifications and activation of staff.
    • Support situation/hazard monitoring, RAF initiation, situation reporting, disaster leveling with all relevant teams.
    • Maintenance of all relevant project management and communication sites/protocol (Smartsheet, Teams, etc.).
    • Oversee After Action Review process (including evaluation, leadership alignment and documentation).
    • Act as main contact for the U.S. Disaster Field Coordinator volunteer group.
    • Collaboratively manage Mobile Response Unit, volunteer deployment and fundraising efforts.
  • 30%: Analyze, evaluate, and review current systems, protocols and/or programs.
    • Evaluate U.S. affiliate emergency, crisis and disaster coordination processes with relevant teams and affiliated network leaders. Present strategic and actionable recommendations for revision and restructuring to leadership and stakeholders.
    • Project design and manage any changes in protocols or processes, while utilizing stakeholder engagement and people-centered approaches for change management.
    • Develop internal documentation and learning materials for both HFHI team members and U.S. affiliated network members.
  • 20%: Engage stakeholders, HFHI teams, and Habitat affiliated teams for feedback, needs analyses and connection opportunities as they relate to U.S. affiliate emergency, crisis, and disaster coordination.
    • Create and implement affiliated network feedback loops regarding disaster and crisis support.
    • Design and facilitate strategic discussions for learning, feedback gathering, and information sharing. This activity will be shared by many teams as a highly collaborative effort.
    • Co-design and support leadership of disaster response simulations or desk reviews.
    • Create U.S. affiliate transparency and communication strategy.
  • 5%: Support global disaster strategy workgroups and action plans.
    • Representing the U.S. Office and U.S. affiliated network needs, inform strategic decision-making and problem-solving.
  • 5%: Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • College graduate
  • 6+ years of related experience
  • Habitat for Humanity network or direct service experience required
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Detail orientation with ability to analyze, problem solve, organize, and manage multiple/competing priorities
  • High degree of resourcefulness to lead projects that may not be clearly defined and ability to work independently with follow through and minimal direction
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and cross-functionally
  • Ability to manage escalations to resolution
  • Strong written, presentation, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated skillset in gathering and analyzing information to form actionable insights
  • Ability to prioritize quality and customer experience while still prioritizing efficiency
  • Proven track record of effective consultative and presentation skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships across a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Exhibits servant-leadership at multiple levels

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (in addition to minimum):
  • Proficient in Smartsheet, PowerPoint, Excel, PowerBI and Tableau
  • Knowledgeable in working with databases
  • Able to work effectively with multiple priorities
The target hiring range for this position is $92,225 - $103,075 per year. For work locations in the US, the salary range for this position is between $87,000 - $130,000 per year.

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate's qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance.
