General Information:

This assistantship works within Student Leadership and Involvement. This specific position supports leadership programming for JMU students. As a part of Student Life, we foster belonging through the personal growth and development of anengaged citizenry by providing inclusive experiences and spaces.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Students who participate in this experience will gain understanding of student affairs as a profession and the influence student affairs has on contemporary higher education through the following tasks and activities:

Supervision, including training and evaluation, of undergraduate employees

Facilitating professional development opportunities for undergraduate students

Event programing

Support the implementation of leadership initiatives within Student Leadership and Involvement

Assist with Madison Leads, a campus leadership program

Assist, plan, and present at undergraduate student leadership retreats and trainings

Budget planning and maintenance

Attend office, departmental, and divisional meetings

Collaborate on projects with various university departments

Qualifications:

Applicants must meet the conditions of employment as listed.

Conditions of Employment:

Students may apply to a graduate assistantship prior to being accepted into a graduate program. However, to be eligible to receive an assistantship upon entry into a graduate program, the following criteria must be met:

The student must be conditionally or unconditionally accepted into a graduate program. Students who are provisionally accepted will not be eligible until they achieve conditional or unconditional acceptance into their program.

The students must have an official transcript on file indicating completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or agency

After receiving an assistantship, the student must maintain at least a 3.0 graduate GPA in order to retain or reapply for the assistantship.

These are minimum criteria. Graduate program coordinators have the right to impose additional criteria if they see fit.

Additional Posting Information:

This assistantship is for 20 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work required.
