About the College/Unit/Department
Part of the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing consists of nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities and is home to more than 9,000 students. The department employs 220 full-time staff members, 21 graduate assistants and 565 undergraduate student workers. As a self-supporting auxiliary, University Housing operates a $59 million budget derived only from student housing fees and other non-state sources.
In support of its mission to provide comfortable, affordable and secure housing options where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported, University Housing engages staff members in competency-based training and students in curriculum-based engagement focused on community building, interpersonal skills, social awareness and responsibility, and well-being.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education or related field OR Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of applicable experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in residence life, belonging, well-being, student conduct or related roles in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and implementing belonging or well-being initiatives.
  • Previous experience working with a curriculum model.
  • Previous experience with assessment and data analysis.

Position Summary
The Coordinator for Residential Education and Belonging is a multifaceted role integral to the success of University Housing at the University of Georgia. This employee carries a diverse set of responsibilities with a primary focus on maintaining an inclusive community by promoting belonging and healthy living environments within residential communities. The coordinator will collaborate with various stakeholders, supervise residential belonging assistants, manage conduct processes, and oversee the implementation of various departmental initiatives. This is a live-off position.

  • Collaborative individual who enjoys working with faculty and staff from a variety of university departments.
  • Ability to multitask and find creative solutions in a supervisory and autonomous environment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and various databases such as StarRez, Advocate, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills needed to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators.
  • Strong understanding of student development theory and curriculum design principles.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

  • Sit at a desk and computer for moderate periods of time.
  • Lift and carry up to 40lbs.
  • Verbally communicate effectively both in person and via telephone with a variety of individuals.

Oversee the Residential Belonging Ambassador Program

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate 12 residential belonging assistants.
  • Assist in developing and implementing belonging training for professional and student staff.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to design and implement belonging initiatives that enhance the residential community.
  • Develop educational experiences that promote belonging as a part of the residential curriculum through campaigns, workshops, events, and training.
  • Stay current with belonging and inclusion best practices; providing suggestions and strategies for continual improvement.
  • Actively engage in building key partnerships across campus (e.g., Office of Institutional Diversity, Equal Opportunity Office, Multicultural Services and Programs, the Pride Center, Disability Resource Center, International Student Life, University Health Center, Student Transitions, Student Care and Outreach, etc.) to identify points of collaboration as it relates to creating inclusive living environments.
  • Serve as a resource to University Housing staff on belonging programs, events, and initiatives.

Promote a Healthy Living Environment

  • Develop and support the implementation of educational events that address behavioral trends and promote healthy living environments within the halls.
  • Manage the development and implementation of departmental health and safety inspections in line with the residential curriculum.
  • Coordinate the roommate success plan process and ensure alignment with a curricular approach.
  • Manage the housing student conduct process by assigning cases to staff and determine referrals as appropriate.
  • Actively engage in building key partnerships across campus (i.e., Office of Student Conduct, Student Care and Outreach, Counseling and Psychiatric Services, University Health Center, UGA PD) to identify points of collaboration as it relates to well-being and creating healthy living environments for residents.
  • Serve as a resource to University Housing staff on well-being programs, events, and initiatives.

  • Support, communicate, enforce and abide by all University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Be knowledgeable of established protocols designed to guide responses to emergencies and other unexpected events.

  • Take ownership of department initiatives, by planning, executing, and assessing various projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, when consistent with the purpose of the position.
