Job Description

Grace is seeking an entry level Analytical Technician Specialist to join our Specialty Catalyst R&D Team! This position reports to the R&D Manager of Analytical Sciences and is located in Columbia, MD.

Responsibilities
  • Foster a safety-centric culture, fully engaging in all aspects of corporate and work group specific safety initiatives.
  • Perform routine and non-routine chemical and scientific sample preparation and testing following Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Assist with the installation, operation, and maintenance of complex analytical instrumentation and equipment .
  • As a member of the Analytical Sciences group - work collaboratively with team members and internal Researchers to execute experimental projects accurately and efficiently within required timelines.
  • Compile, document, and report data from experiments.
  • Demonstrate a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Perform laboratory housekeeping and procurement duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, balance, stoop, kneel, and climb stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. (11 kg).
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to protective eyewear, safety shoes, chemical, temperature and/or cut resistant gloves.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials.
  • Must be comfortable working with common laboratory chemicals such as organic solvents, acids, and bases.
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Chemistry or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 0 - 2 years of experience in an Analytical and/or Technical laboratory or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiar with principles of sample extraction, dissolution, and dilution for quantitative analysis.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment supporting a broad range of Specialty Catalyst Scientists.
  • Some knowledge and experience with basic chemical laboratory practices, equipment, and instrumentation .
  • Proficiency in office-based computer software (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in air-sensitive chemical manipulation preferred (glovebox), experience with reactive materials considered a plus.
  • Some experience with FTIR, DSC or titration is advantageous.
