Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1.

Accurately performs skills per policy and procedure. Completes only those skills for which competency has been demonstrated.

Performs duties and assists with procedures as delegated by RN and/or Provider.

Accurately documents pertinent patient information using verbal, written and electronic communication according to SH policy, procedures, standards and time frames.

4.

Functions as a member of the care team, assisting in the care of all patients within area assignment. Collaborates with RN to implement plan of care, observes and reports patient progress and relevant changes to Nursing.

5.

Reinforces patient teaching in areas of activities of daily living, such as walker and crutch education, and involves family or designated care giver with care.

Assists with patient flow, including safe patient transport.

7.

Assists in maintaining a safe unit environment for patients, visitors and staff.

8.

Utilizing basic knowledge and skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, performs patient care duties. Examples include; monitoring vital signs, placing patients on cardiac monitor, assisting patients with activities of daily living, reinforcing patient teaching, performing basic patient observation skills and reporting changes in patient condition to the appropriate team member, completing EKGs, completing bladder scans, completing phlebotomy blood draws, splinting, completing wound care, completing POC testing, telemetry monitoring, patient rounding, and patient scheduling, as training and competency allows.

9.

Staff will be required to sign up for the unit-designated number of standby hours to meet the needs of the department.

10.

Participates in shared decision making as evidenced by compliance with unit-specific Standard Work applicable to staff meetings.

Education

*High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

RequiresONEof the following to be considered for hire:

*CNA license

*CMA license

*EMT B certification

*Enrolled in an accredited nursing school

*Previous experience as an ED Tech or in a comparable role (i.e. CMA, UAP).

Prefer experience in acute care, ambulatory care, emergency care or Emergency Medical Service setting.

Prefer completion of one (1) year of nursing school within the last two (2) years.

Licenses/ Certification/ Registration

*BLS from the American Heart Association required.

Special knowledge, skills, & abilities

*Demonstrates ability to accept a variety of patient care and unit maintenance assignments.

*Recognizes limitation according job description, training, and proven competencies

*Demonstrates dedication to good interpersonal communication skills with co-workers and patients

*Ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses and other hospital employees

*Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients and their families

*Requires self-direction and the ability to exercise judgment in prioritizing accuracy and promptness in completion of tasks.

*Demonstrates knowledge and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet the specific needs of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.

*Ability to maintain a calm demeanor while working in a fast-paced atmosphere of conflicting demands.
