Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

We are in search of new talent in the following position...

Position: Accounting Specialist - Treasury

The Accounting Specialist - Treasury will assist the Finance Department in matters relating to internal control and the safeguarding of agency's assets. Perform functions dealing with the receipt, disbursement and protection of cash. Assist with special projects as assigned by Senior Manager of Treasury.

Location: 135 West 50th Street * New York, NY 10020

Minimum Qualifications:



  • BA degree in Accounting or Finance plus one year related experience.
  • Position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of Excel and Word for Windows is required.



Accounting Specialist - Treasury Principal Responsibilities:



  1. Assist the Senior Manager of Treasury with treasury related tasks, enter and approve bank transfers, upload payroll checks, monitor cash balances, review positive pay, and other bank related tasks in accordance with VOA-GNY, Inc. Finance Policies and Procedures.
  2. Assist with the preparation of workpapers and reports for Internal and External Audits
  3. Propose entries for review and recordation by Controller and designated staff member for cash transfers with information needed for accurate journal entry.
  4. Assist with the maintenance and reconcile debt schedules, calculate and record interest, prepares payments of loans and notes.
  5. Assist Senior Manager of Treasury in analyzing the agency's cash needs and ensure proper liquidity to match those needs.
  6. Assist Senior Manager of Treasury as the banking liaison in relation to obtaining information such as statements, detail of transactions, etc.
  7. Adhere to all policies and procedures to ensure the timely and accurate preparation of the above.
