We are currently accepting applications for one (1) full-time (40 hrs/wk) position:

Recycling Facility Supervisor
Department of Public Works

Complete Hourly Range: $30.02 to $35.80 per hour
with excellent health, dental and leave benefits

The REQUIRED Town of Lexington application form must be received in the Town's Human
Resource Department by Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Scope of Work

This position oversees and coordinates recycling programs and activities within the Department, implements
program goals and objectives, and performs a variety of technical tasks in support of the Town's various
environmental programs.

Supervision

Received Superintendent or other Department Management Personnel.

Exercised Supervises full and part-time and seasonal heavy equipment operator and maintenance
personnel.

Essential Job Functions

* Oversees and coordinates recycling program activities; supervises the Town's recycling facility; secures
and maintains facility.
* Operates loader and other equipment related to recycling operation.
* Maintains records of materials dropped off at recycling center; oversees materials dumped at site.
* Checks permits of parties bringing material to the facility.
* Collects payments due and pursues overdue or delinquent payments.

* Monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; coordinates
employees assigned to facility; makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing
programs.
* Monitors, organizes and turns leaf, compost and woodchip piles.
* Works with public, contractors, and other recycling facility patrons to ensure appropriate materials are
brought and placed in correct location; provides information about facility services and operations;
oversees transference of materials and maintains appropriate records.
* Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community
relations.
* Follows safe work practices.

Requirements of Work
Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent) and additional technical or specialized training, plus at least
7 years of experience in recycling or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience
which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:
Knowledge of * Occupational hazard related to dumping and recycling of materials.
* Operations, services and activities of a recycling program.
* Recent developments, current literature and information relation to recycling.
* Proper operations and maintenance of vehicles, equipment and facilities associated
with recycling program.
* Recordkeeping procedures.
* Basic composting procedures.
* Applicable rules, regulations, codes, ordinances and safety standards that govern the
performance of the duties being performed.
* Occupational hazards and the methods and techniques used to avoid or minimize
risks.
* The use of standard office equipment including computers and applicable software
applications.
Ability to * Supervise recycling facilities, programs and personnel.
* Communicate clearly and concisely.
* Perform manual labor and equipment operations under a variety of weather
conditions.
* Prepare and keep records and reports.
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers,
contractors, residents and the general public.
Skill in * Customer service.
* Oral and written communications.
* Identifying and preventing work hazards.
* The operation of vehicles, equipment, machinery and tools used in assigned
operations.

Necessary Special Requirements

Possession of a valid driver's license; Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement;
Massachusetts Class 2B Hoisting License

* Work is performed mostly outdoors; hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and
various types of tools, equipment and machinery.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, prolonged visual concentration and
the ability to adjust focus.
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk
and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach
with hands and arms.
* The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
* The employee is frequently exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme heat, cold,
wetness and humidity; and to other unpleasant conditions such as dim lighting, dust, odors, noise,
vibration, toxic agents, heavy machinery and smoke.
* The employee must occasionally lift and/or move materials of up to 20 pounds, and sometimes up
to and in excess of 50 pounds.
