Job Purpose

Provides high quality language services to clients that result in excellent customer satisfaction. Applies a working knowledge of language skills, techniques and methodologies to work independently on common language tasks and projects.



Job Overview

Operational Excellence - Provides high quality and accurate translations that contribute to the overall success of the project and client satisfaction. Works on translations and projects of increasing complexity, requiring proficiency in translation tools and processes. Achieves results by effectively understanding requirements, utilizing the appropriate tools, and ensuring quality output. May provide linguistic support to a variety of people/departments such as: SDL lead Language Specialists, project managers, DTP, Engineering and Audio. Starts performing the function of lead Language Specialist (planning and managing the work of in-house and freelance translators, quality assurance (QA), and providing linguistic support to the project manager.)

Delivers Quality, Value, Results - Demonstrates a strong focus on quality and client satisfaction by effectively understanding and applying quality standards to all deliverables. Performs quality assurance (QA) tasks (e.g., linguistic testing, proofing, editing and revising) to help the team deliver the highest quality output. Communicates effectively with the project team to ensure a clear understanding of the requirements and to resolve issues.

Functional Excellence - Helps to improve quality of translations by making suggestions for improvement to processes based on experience and feedback on projects/outputs. Broadens his/her skill base by developing deeper language skills, specialized knowledge (e.g., industry, linguistic), and knowledge of cultural standards associated with source and target languages.

Relationship Building - Builds credibility with team members by actively contributing to increasingly complex projects and implementing actions to improve quality.

Translation competence:

The ability to translate content in accordance with 5.3.1 including the ability to address the problems of language content comprehension and language content production and the ability to render the target language content in accordance with the client-TSP agreement and other project specifications

Linguistic and textual competence in the source language and the target language:

The ability to understand the source language, fluency in the target language, and general or specialized knowledge of text-type conventions. This linguistic and textual competence includes the ability to apply this knowledge when producing translation or other target language content.

Competence in research, information acquisition, and processing:

The ability to efficiently acquire the additional linguistic and specialized knowledge necessary to understand the source language content and to produce the target language content. Research competence also requires experience in the use of research tools and the ability to develop suitable strategies for the efficient use of the information sources available

Cultural competence:

The ability to make use of information on the behavioral standards, up-to-date terminology, value systems, and locale that characterize both source and target language cultures.

Technical competence:

The knowledge, abilities, and skills required to perform the technical tasks in the translation process by employing technical resources including the tools and IT systems that support the whole translation process.

Domain competence: The ability to understand content produced in the source language and to reproduce it in the target language using the appropriate style and terminology.

Education:

Typically requires at least a degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

Typically requires minimum of 1 - 3 years related experience.
