Environmental Scientist/Engineer Internship

Overview:

FPM Remediations, Inc. is looking for summer interns to join our Oneida, NY office for a period lasting from mid-May to mid-August 2024. Our paid Environmental Scientist/Engineer internship provides 40 hours of on-site work per week and an opportunity for students to gain practical experience in the field of environmental site investigation and remediation.


Primary Responsibilities:

Under the direction of an FPM Project Manager, the Environmental Scientist/Engineer Intern will provide field and office support for a variety of environmental investigation and remediation projects.



  • Field work may require travel to various sites undergoing remedial investigation across the United States and will primarily include collection of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air samples.
  • Office support may include data entry, analysis, and reporting.
  • Shadow multiple office positions and train in a variety of tasks
  • Manage databases and input information, data, and records
  • Research and gather background documentation on project sites
  • Provide clerical support to maintain files and organize documents; photocopy, etc. as needed

Education and/or Experience:

The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled at an accredited college working towards a bachelor's degree in an environmental science or engineering discipline and possess the following attributes:



  • Core curriculum that includes geology/earth science, chemistry, math, and physics
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Experience with certain platforms or software including Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel); ArcGIS experience a plus.
  • Good time management
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Self-starter
  • Valid United States driver's license

The employee must be able to Lifting heavy equipment/supplies up to 50 lbs (Note: lifting more than 50 lbs requires two or more personnel). This position also requires frequent walking, routinely 6+ miles per day (5-6 days per week).Field work is performed in on various outdoor terrain and regularly requires the ability to navigate uneven ground or other obstacles found in natural surroundings.


Work Environment:

Some travel to field sites required. Fieldwork involves performing physically demanding tasks and working 10-hour days (typically five (5) 10-hour days per week), potentially in adverse field conditions (cold, hot, high wind, dusty environment, rough terrain) in remote locations.
