Actuarial Specialist

Essential Functions:

  • Plans assigned pricing, reserving and/or modeling work streams and manages special projects
  • Makes recommendations based on analysis and communicates them with external departments
  • Peer reviews work to maintain the integrity of the actuarial work product and outlines the timeframes in which the work is completed
  • Leads and conducts independent research and analysis
  • Develops, maintains, enhances, and documents actuarial tools and techniques required for project or production work
  • Develops actuarial excel templates for each line of business and every state for the analysis of projects
  • Incorporates the latest techniques into pricing, reserving and/or modeling functions
  • Serves as subject matter expert in pricing and reserving or predicative modeling for at least two lines of business or other technical actuarial area: Catastrophe Model, Economic Capital Model, or Assumed Reinsurance

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science or math
  • Five years of actuarial experience
  • 4-5 exams or equivalent relevant experience
  • Additional experience, exams or graduate level coursework may be considered in meeting the requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent knowledge of statistics and probability and computer programming
  • Proficiency in pricing and reserving, or predictive modeling for at least 2 lines of business or proficiency in other technical actuarial area of Catastrophe Model, Economic Capital Model, or Assumed Reinsurance.
  • Thorough knowledge of actuarial terminology, concepts and theory
  • Thorough knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and PowerBI and Word
  • Thorough knowledge of at least one computer language, such as R, SAS or SQL preferred
  • Ability to effectively lead a small team and special projects
  • Strong analytical, investigation and problem-solving abilities
