Summary:

UNC Health Foundation's mission is to inspire philanthropic support to transform health and provide hope to benefit the people of North Carolina and around the world. This role, which will have a working title of Executive Director of Development, Children's, is a senior level fundraising position within the UNC Health Foundation. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President, Philanthropy, this position is responsible for directing the lead annual and major gift fundraising program for the Children's team. This position will include metric driven financial targets commensurate with the overarching team goal. He/she will be expected to build, replenish and carry a portfolio of ~100 major gift prospects/donors and will be required to meet the standard visit and proposal metrics as set forth by the UNC Health Foundation. Experience with lead annual and major gifts is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of lead annual and major gift officers. Set objectives and goals for the group supervise the development of their annual work plans with clear metrics motivate and communicate with them measure their progress at least quarterly ensure that development officers reach their financial goals. Develop and mentor them.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts in support of the Department of Pediatrics, UNC Children's Hospital (Medical Center) and any other system-level Children's priorities. The metric-driven financial targets assigned to this position are commensurate with the overarching team goal. Expected to build, replenish and carry a portfolio of ~100 major gift donors and prospects and will be required to meet the standard visit, proposal and commitment metrics as set forth by the UNC Health Foundation.
  • Build a pipeline of grateful patient prospects by engaging and training clinicians, nurses, administrators, volunteers, and others in the grateful patient process.
  • Work with Foundation, Department of Pediatrics, UNC Children's Hospital (Medical Center) and other system-level Children's senior leadership to help guide strategic direction, set priorities and enlist their involvement in philanthropic efforts.
  • Partner with Annual Giving staff to strategize and collaborate to develop calendar and content for appeals. Review and edit monthly email and print solicitations.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a minimum of seven years of related experience, with at least three years of management experience leading a team. Experience in an academic medical center, university or large college setting is preferred. A successful track record in soliciting and closing major gifts ($100,000+) as well as strategic planning and/or comprehensive campaign experience are required.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentational skills required. Superior written and verbal communication skills required. Demonstrated supervisory experience of fundraising staff required. Working knowledge of computer-related office tools and database management.
