Student Resource Specialist I (TEMP)

University of Central Florida
paid time off
United States, Florida, Orlando
April 19, 2024

First Year Experience:

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is located in East Orlando, approximately 10 miles from downtown and 30 miles from major attractions and theme parks, including Disney World and Universal Studios. We are 45 minutes from the beach and in close driving distance to several other major Florida cities including Tampa, Jacksonville, and Miami. UCF is currently one of the largest universities in the nation with over 66,000 students.

First Year Experience at the University of Central Florida is a critical unit to the success of new students and families at UCF. Situated within Student Success and Well-Being (SSWB), FYE oversees new student orientation for both FTIC (first time in college) and transfer students in addition to the Pegasus Parent Program, which includes Family Weekend.

The Opportunity:

UCF assists a significant number of students and guests in their transition process each year. In addition to Orientation at the Orlando campus, FYE and other campus partners provide support for the satellite campuses, including Rosen, the Downtown Campus (a partnership campus between UCF and Valencia College), UCF Connect Centers, and UCF Online. Orientation attendance is required for all new students and during Orientation, students meet with advisors and register for classes.

Freshman (First-Time in College; "FTIC") sessions last two days while Transfer sessions are one day. Both formats include virtual pre-arrival communications and orientation content. In addition to advising and course registration, orientation sessions include small group meetings led by Orientation Leaders to provide support in the areas of academic, social, and institutional transition.

FYE also fosters collaboration with parents and family members to provide resources and information empowering families to aid in their student's success. Services beyond the Summer Orientation program include outreach to parents and families through newsletters, on-line services, and special family visit programs to bring families back to campus.

This opportunity is for a summer intern position. Interns are a vital component of the professional orientation staff and contribute to the continued development and implementation of these programs and services. This intern would assist with in-session support logistical support and Orientation program assessment efforts.

  • Attend and participate in all Orientation Leader Training and Orientations (includes evening and possibly some weekend commitments).
