Position Summary |
The student services paraprofessional/professional manages the day to day operations of the Department of Classics, particularly with the administrative support for instructional funds of the unit. Serving as the assistant to the Department Head, Undergraduate Coordinator, Graduate Coordinator, and Summer Institute Directors, the primary functions of this position are to provide general administrative support for the day-to-day operations; schedule courses and enter registration overrides in Banner; manage course instructor evaluations; process graduate student applications and communicate with prospective/admitted students; clear registration holds for graduate students; and process forms and assist students with Graduate School policies and procedures.
This position involves access to student records; academic advising; and curriculum processing: Banner; Athena; Degree Works and working knowledge of Google Docs; Qualtrics; QR codes; etc. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Ability to work independently and in a responsible manner to perform these duties, as well as work as part of the Classics Team.
- Strong organizational and people skills; proven skills in written communications.
- Previous experience in the management of complex projects, including skills to identify, prioritize, and accomplish specific tasks needed to accomplish routine work.
- Flexibility to adapt to changes in work priorities and job standards; excellent computer and technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Works, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe CS6, eLC, DegreeWorks, Dreamweaver, Qualtrics, SARA; experience in the use of the Banner Student System, Athena, Argos, and NOLIJ;
- Ability/willingness to learn other technology applications and office processes.

Student services from beginning of student's application arrival to graduation; Maintain databases and listservs, first point of contact for prospective student; Updating Graduate and Undergraduate handbook; maintain undergraduate major/minor database; produce undergraduate major and minor enrollment reports; maintain introductory course enrollment reports; maintain undergraduate major assessment files; reply to department website grading inquiries. Maintain alumni database/mailing lists; in coordination with the Graduate and Undergraduate Coordinators and Director of the Summer Institute, post academic-related messages on the majors/minors and graduate student listservs. |

Course offerings; assist department head in creating teaching schedules, loading courses: assist in creation of new courses in
CAPA; classroom requests for courses and special events; general classroom troubleshooting; distribution and collection of keys; clear student advisements, give prerequisite and permission of department overrides to students to register; setup thesis hours and independent study courses; create and manage Qualtrics forms and QR Codes; handle Departmental Scholarship applications; handle faculty and staff job search applications; establish and maintain detailed calendar for annual tasks for Graduate and Undergraduate Coordinators. Maintain faculty personnel digital records. |
