Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
Summer research assistants will work on summer research projects related to the SlicerCloud Grant and the FHL Fish Class. They will also conduct their own independent research and maintain their writing goals. RAs will be required to help (and occasionally lead) collecting trips around San Juan Island. They will also be expected to help maintain and teach undergraduate and graduate students how to use equipment in the Fish Lab.
Responsibilities
Conduct research off-site at Friday Harbor Labs related to Fish Class and your own independent research. Duties include:

  • Carry out experiments related to the research.
  • Follow lab safety protocols.
  • Lab based experimental design and collecting data.
  • Collaborate with and mentor other independent researchers off-site at Friday Harbor Labs
  • Train and advise undergraduate and graduate research students.
  • Manage general lab, class, and field collection operations off-site at Friday Harbor Labs:
  • Maintain records and assist with routine maintenance.
  • Create and maintain equipment schedules

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree and previous experience in an appropriate field with preference given to candidates with a degree or equivalent coursework in biomechanics, physiology, electrical engineering, or computer science.
  • Experience in working with CT scans
  • Programming experience in R
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Willingness to acquire new skills
