Responsibilities

Austin Oaks Hospital (a UHS facility):

Austin Oaks Hospital is an 80-bed facility that offers a broad spectrum of psychiatric services for adults and children ages 4 to 17. Located on a beautiful 13-acre, oak-lined campus, we provide a home-like environment that promotes crisis resolution, positive self-awareness, social skills, and personal growth. Our psychiatric treatment and substance abuse services are available through both inpatient and outpatient programs to fit your needs. Postition:

The Unit Clerk communicates patient information, manually and electronically to appropriate health care providers. Assists the unit nursing staff in processing paperwork pertinent to care of psychiatric patients. Answer unit telephone, distributes mail, and orders unit supplies. Assures accuracy and completeness of patient charts. Hours are 3 days a week 10 hrs days with rotating weekends.

Job Resposibilites:

  • Communicates physician's orders accurately and completely in writing and via computer.
  • Prioritizes flow of information from patient care area to all other departments.
  • Insures efficient operation of the unit clerical functions.
  • Performs unit receptionist functions.
  • Organizes and maintains patient medical records.
  • Maintains position knowledge.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education:

Required: High School Diploma or GED,

Preferred: At least one year of college.

Licensure/Certification:

Current CPR.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing work/time.
  • Ability to file alphabetically and numerically.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, i.e., copy machines and fax machines.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and to write legibly.
  • Ability to work well with others in difficult situations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of staff and patient information.
  • Assists other areas of the hospital as needed.
