Peoria's Water Services Department has an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Compliance Supervisor within the Environmental Resources Division. The purpose of this position is to supervise the activities of the Regulatory Compliance Division in the Water Services Department. The Environmental Compliance Supervisor plans, organizes, and supervises environmental compliance activities, including permitting, sampling, monitoring, analytical (laboratory) testing, inspection and reporting efforts to maintain City compliance with federal and state environmental laws (e.g. Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Aquifer Protection Permit), and associated federal, state, and local regulations and requirements. The position acts as a liaison between the City and federal, state, and local environmental and public health agencies. It also works collaboratively to help develop and clarify environmental laws, standards, policies, and requirements; coordinates procedures and programs with other internal and external groups on various projects to ensure compliance requirements are met; and develops and delivers public education and outreach.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:



  • Experience in a municipal or government setting.
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Strong computer and communication skills
  • Preferred degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science or other similar life/earth or public health related field.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local regulations for water, wastewater, storm water, and pretreatment programs, sampling and inspection procedures, data analysis, and report writing to provide training and technical advice to Environmental Compliance Inspectors.

Minimum Requirements:



  • Education: Bachelor's degree in any field or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years related experience.
  • Technical Skills: Strong computer and communication skills


Licenses and Certifications:



  • Valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade II Water Operator Certification
  • Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade II Wastewater Operator Certification.


Preferred / Desirable Qualifications:



  • Experience in a municipal or government setting.
