We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Director - Accounting on our Finance team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.

As a Director - Accounting, you will direct or perform all accounting functions and
analyses associated with business operations, accounts receivable, and ensuring
compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Evaluate systems and processes, identify improvement opportunities, and
lead relevant system enhancement initiatives and implementations in
collaboration with IT and businesses.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Unit Accounting and Analysis

  • Ensure that systems, policies, and procedures for varied revenue cycles from contract execution to cash payment are in place with appropriate internal controls, working efficiently and in compliance with GAAP.
  • Collaborate with business units to prepare, interpret, and communicate revenue, cost, and profitability analyses appropriate for all levels of the organization.
  • Coordinate and manage the review and analysis of major funding businesses' annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Ensure financial reporting system structures are appropriate and allocations are based on suitable metrics and regularly updated.
  • Review and design enhanced reporting of business line revenues and profitability.
  • Lead complex ad hoc projects involving the analysis of financial and operating data.

Business Unit Support

  • Review all business revenue contracts and resolve contractual matters with multiple stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with business units on a regular basis to review and advise on business performance, new initiatives, and related organizational impacts.
  • Analyze and report on funding business units' forecast and budget submissions
  • In partnership with business units, lead the commerce-related aspects of system implementations and modifications.

Staff Management

  • Lead, mentor, and educate direct and indirect reports; set direction, objectives, and project priorities; evaluate staff performance and support staff development.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting with CPA.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of combined professional and managerial experience.
  3. Current knowledge of US GAAP and industry or public accounting experience.
  4. Proven experience with financial information systems including Oracle Hyperion, SmartView/Essbase, Blackline, Lawson, or similar applications/tools. Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  5. Highly proficient communication and analytical skills required.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels and functions of the organization.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a demanding environment with required overtime.
  8. Highly attentive to details, organized, and effective at managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
  9. Demonstrated experience applying company policies and procedures to resolve issues within defined accounting procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  10. Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills, such as problem solving, and decision making.
