Shift Schedule: 48/96 A-B-C rotation

$54,409 annually (hourly paid position)

We are hiring Firefighter EMT/Company Officer Trainees with a passion for firefighting and patient care. Desire and ability to progress through supervisory training and experience to become qualified as a Company Officer, regardless of rank.

Job Summary:

Firefighter EMT/Company Officer Trainee will respond to fire alarms, emergency, and non-emergency calls to prevent or extinguish fires and to protect life and property including rescue and salvage operations. Incumbents are also responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and repairing fire department property and equipment.

Company Officer, upon obtaining qualification as part of the trainee program, may be called to step-up in the absence of the Lieutenant or Captain, or staff an additional engine company as needed. Company Officer is the first line supervisor for engine crew personnel and may be responsible for initial incident command functions on fire suppression, patient care or technical rescue situations.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the date of appointment.
  • Driving record must be acceptable after review by national Risk Management.
  • Provide proof of current NFPA Firefighter 1 or equivalent
  • Provide proof of current NWCG FFT2 or equivalent
  • Valid Oregon EMT License, or applying for reciprocity
  • Successfully pass physical abilities test, and assessment center/interview that has a heavy emphasis on evaluating candidate's leadership potential
  • Must pass drug screen and background check

Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • While performing the duties of this job, fire department personnel are frequently required to walk, sit, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, lift, talk, see, hear, feel, use clear speech and operate machinery. There is a need to reach and perform moderate (20-50 pounds) and infrequent heavy (50-200 pounds) lifting during the use of tools and equipment, and while assisting others while extinguishing fires or treating ill/injured persons.

Essential Functions:

Training

  • Participates in all required training sessions, including, but not limited to, live fire drills, performance evaluation drills, ongoing skills maintenance. Company evolutions, and job performance requirements based on NFPA 1001 professional qualifications for Firefighter I.

Customer Service

  • Work requires cooperative/supportive interaction with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Work requires interaction with the public, customers, other public service members from local, state, and federal agencies.

Communications

  • Portable radios are used as a means of communication.
  • Must conduct all radio communications in a professional, respectful manner.
