Position Summary
The staff emergency veterinarian (ER staff vet) will provide emergency service as part of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital's Small Animal Emergency/Critical Care Service ( ECC). This is a full-time position with 100% service-related responsibilities within the hospital, including receiving and managing emergency patients; providing support to interns, residents, students, and staff; and assisting with the care of inpatients. The inpatient medicine section head will represent the ER staff vet on the hospital board, and the position reports directly to the hospital director. This is a swing shift position with some flexibility in scheduling. Completion of a rotating internship or equivalent experience.
This is a 1-year limited-term position. Continuation of employment is probable, but not guaranteed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Licensed to practice as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine within the state of Georgia.
  • Established experience within an emergency critical care unit of a veterinary hospital environment.
  • Interact and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel and display excellent interpersonal skills
  • Apply common sense when carrying out verbal and written instructions.
  • Work in a fast paced environment.
  • Exhibit attention to detail.
  • Ability to commit to an overnight variable shift.

Physical Demands

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
  • Work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery.
  • Wear all protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.
  • Work for long periods of time with arms extended.
