Job Description The ECSE special education teacher provides special education services as outlined in the individualized Education Plan for preschool aged learners (3-5 years old) in the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) classroom. This position supports the state and division goals for increasing opportunities and supports for students with disabilities to participate successfully in an inclusive setting. The ECSE Inclusion teacher works collaboratively with the VPI teacher to develop and implement district approved curriculum to ensure adequate differentiation and embedding supports for students with disabilities into the VPI classroom. The ECSE Inclusion teacher documents student progress through daily and weekly data collection in order to make data-based decisions about the effectiveness of teaching and behavioral strategies. This position reports to the building principal. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in job related area + Introduction to ECSE graduate course. Masters preferred in ECSE. Statement of Specialized Experience Specialized experience for this position includes experience working with learners with autism spectrum disorders in an educational environment; conducting formal and informal assessments using curriculum-based tools or progress monitoring measures; collecting data for pre- academic, behavioral, communication and social skills and graphically displaying data; developing individualized reinforcement systems for a variety of learners and supporting learners in inclusive educational environments for the purpose of generalizing skills across settings.
