Lunar Permanence: This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be responsible for systems engineering products for the Fuel Cell Controller and its components. You will participate in the derivation and development of subsystem requirements, performing analyses and trade studies to validate requirements, and maintaining subsystem specification, budgets, and performance metrics. You will collaborate with the vehicle systems engineering, electrical power systems, structures, and dynamics teams to ensure design coordination to meet the performance deliverables. You will need to be able to communicate technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support early feasibility studies, subsystem architecture development, definition of subsystem and component trade space, and concept of operations for the Fuel Cell Controller's Avionics Hardware and Software

  • Derive and develop subsystem requirements, perform analyses and trades to validate requirements, and maintain subsystem specification, budgets and performance metrics

  • Collaborate with other subsystems and spacecraft systems engineers to support define subsystem boundaries and interfaces, including Electrical Power Systems, Thermal, Fluids, GN&C, etc.

  • Support verification and testing, ensuring the subsystem complies to its requirements

  • Support certification activities related to DC-178/DO-254

  • Work in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical subject area

  • Applied industry experience and/or M.S. or Ph.D. focused on development of requirements, interfaces, trades and analyses for thermal, fluids, or related subsystems

  • Proven ability to interpret and apply high-level system requirements to practical design solutions for a complex physical assembly

  • Experience with software and hardware assurance, particularly NPR 7150, DO-254 and DO-178 development standards

  • A breadth of understanding in electrical engineering such as developing complex circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or other advanced electronic commercial or aerospace products

  • Experience designing and evaluating hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop testing

  • Experience in Matlab/Simulink

  • Experience with requirements management software

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical subject area

  • Familiarity with radiation effects, EMI/EMC, thermal, etc.

  • Experience with requirements and V&V tracking tools, preferably using JAMA.

  • Experience with Model Based System Engineering approaches.

  • Experience with performing system safety analyses including Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

  • Familiarity with C/C++

  • Experience operating on an Agile team.

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $153,636-$215,090
