Summary

This internship program is designed to provide on-the-job training and experience to upcoming or recent college graduates within the advanced technical field. Interns will engage in various work assignments, projects, and activities of varying technical complexity, structured to enable the intern to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform at a professional, technical level, typically identified with a targeted exempt position within the field of information technology. Interns will receive training and mentorship in planning and carrying out activities and assignments. This is a fixed-term position, typically up to 4 months.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provides entry- to intermediate-level advanced technical services, under supervision of more senior professional staff and/or faculty personnel, as appropriate to the day-to-day operating objectives of the program.

2. Undertakes and/or participates in technical design projects and programs designed to develop professional skills and expertise that will support the programs information technology, and/or other technical needs.

3. Interacts directly with colleagues, customers, and vendors in the planning of assignments and the resolution of day-to-day operational problems.

4. Receives guidance, training, and mentoring from more senior professional personnel in designing, planning, and carrying out activities and assignments.

5. As appropriate to the position, and as specified by program management, conducts original design and/or research and prepares reports based on findings, to included recommendations or alternative proposals for action.

6. May undertake related studies or enrichment training as appropriate to the specific objectives of the program.

7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

* Must present transcripts prior to a formal offer being extended.

* This is a fixed-term position, typically up to 4 months.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

* Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

* No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

* The internship program offers practical work experience and an introduction to technical support. This internship will involve challenging opportunities, real technical projects, and working closely with a team. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the technical field and provides an opportunity to gain experience with the technical operations and support of a mid-sized government contractor.

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements

* Currently working toward or recent graduate with Bachelor's or Master's degree in technical field; no previous experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

* Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed technical instructions.

* Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

* Project development and planning skills.

* Entry-level and/or advanced technical knowledge and skill at the Bachelor's or Master's of Science level within specified area of technical professional specialty.

Distinguishing Characteristics

We are looking for someone with strong computer skills, very strong interest, and a passion to learn. Familiarity with computer systems and software. Must have ability to work independently as needed.
