About the role

Create and manage a well-rounded team of quality techs ensuring they are trained and aware of how to achieve quality and testing goals, thereby assuring that all products produced at the facility meets and exceeds customer standards and governmental regulations.

Your responsibilities

  • Ensure that test procedures, work instructions and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) are accurate and up to date
  • Ensure that calibrations and verifications are conducted per schedule
  • Establish a streamlined workflow and develop process improvements
  • Provide technical support to internal and external personnel
  • Assist with monitoring equipment and environmental cleanliness per specified program and assist plant personnel in improving sanitation
  • When problems arise, work with plant and corporate personnel to correct problems in product or plant (if possible) and prevent future occurrence of the problem
  • Understand plant and personnel requirements for housekeeping, pest control and GMP's
  • Assist with the quality programs (including but not limited to SQF, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), Preventive controls for Human Food program, allergen, environmental, housekeeping, pest control) including development and implementation of SOP's and new procedures and audit follow-up
  • Assist with compliance with government regulations
  • Interact with customers, suppliers, auditors, and government inspectors as needed

  • Ensure back-up is available to fulfil duties when absent
  • Assist with test runs and trials as needed
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by upper management or as apparent
  • Understand requirements for Raw materials, In-process observation, inspection and testing in blending and packaging, and finished product sampling and testing


  • Support non-conforming product and equipment
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for batch records and all supporting activities.

The experience we're looking for

  • Several years food quality assurance and supervisory experience are strongly preferred
  • Training in HACCP, FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act), GMP's, SQF or FSSC 22000 preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Leadership and personnel management skills
  • Organizational and prioritization skills
  • Problem solving skills, common sense, and business sense
  • Computer skills including use of Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of food microbiology and food chemistry is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of general regulatory affairs is desirable
  • Dairy and Infant Formula knowledge is desirable
  • Can lift and carry 30lbs

  • Be able to work beyond normal work hours to train and/or assess laboratory technicians or participate in atypical occurrences and test runs as necessary
  • Working conditions can also include working with a variety of chemicals, some of which may be hazardous if mishandled
  • Be able to climb stairs and around equipment to sample product and monitor the plant

Education / Experience

Education in food science, chemistry, microbiology, biology, agricultural sciences, or similar fields with coursework in math, chemistry and microbiology is strongly preferred. Statistics is also preferred.

US salary ranges

$98,000 - $120,000

US pay transparency

The base salary range for this role will vary based on experience in job and industry, training and education, skills relevant to the position, and other factors permitted by law. In addition to the base salary, the position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, which is subject to change each year.
