Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Research Coordinator II to join our Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI) department. This position is a full-time opportunity that will be primarily remote, but will required some travel to KP medical centers.

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group is comprised of more than 1,700 Permanente physicians and nearly 300 staff professionals who come together to make a positive impact on the health and lives of more than 800,000 members in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Reporting to a Director of Research Programs, the Research Coordinator II will help patients participating in liver health research programs navigate testing and follow-up care pathways.You will primarily manage patient outreach and communications, maintain registries of patients, coordinate care for patients, and support the quality improvement and outcome activities for the Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, Hepatocellular Carcinoma surveillance, other research projects as needed.

You can expect to:



  • Communicate with patients to conduct follow-up visits, schedule laboratory testing, appointments and procedures, and provide testing results updates through phone calls, patient secure messages and letters to ensure patients complete the program in a timely manner
  • Manage registries of patients within the program(s) by maintaining detailed notes and completing clinical documentation of source encounters in the KP HealthConnect EMR
  • Partner with healthcare team members to streamline patient care, ensuring proactive communication with physicians, patients, and the healthcare team regarding patient progress and any registry-related issues
  • Collaborate with Physician Sponsor and Project Manager to perform quality improvement activities on the program including sharing feedback from patients and physicians, discussing details about program challenges, and offering suggestions to continuously improve the success of the program


What is required:



  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) required


  • Must be willing to obtain licenses that cover Virginia, Maryland and Washington DCif not already active


  • Minimum of four (4) years of work experience in a clinical setting
  • Interest in quality improvement research is preferred


  • Previous experience in hepatitis or infectious disease patient care is preferred
  • Proficiency in EPIC or similar EMR system is preferred
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and oral communication skills (bilingual is a plus)
  • Comfortability managing and protecting sensitive patient health information
  • Must be able to commute to a Kaiser Permanente medical centers, one day per week.
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area

  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment. Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccina as a condition of employment.
