Radiology Technologist - Cath Lab

The Cath Lab Radiology Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures and surgically assisting the proceduralist, under sterile technique, for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions.

Job Relationships



  • Reports to the Manager of Operations, Cath Lab



Principal Responsibilities



  • Prepare the Cath Lab procedure rooms by ensuring rooms are stocked and in working condition.
  • Prepare patient and equipment for cath lab procedures by preparing site of entry, draping patient, arranging sterilized instruments and catheters, and setting up pressure transducers and tubing.
  • Performs as a sterile assistant, assists the physician in scrubbing and maintaining a sterile field, assists with catheter and/or equipment insertion and removal.
  • Conduct cardiac catheterizations, angiograms, and other cardiovascular imaging procedures.
  • Operate and maintain fluoroscopy machines, digital imaging systems, and other specialized Cath Lab equipment.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety during procedures, monitoring vital signs and administering medications as directed.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
  • Document and maintain accurate patient records, procedure logs, and required paperwork.
  • Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, adhering to radiation safety and infection control standards.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, providing support in critical scenarios.
  • Stay updated on advancements in cardiac imaging technology through ongoing education and training.
  • Check crash cart, defibrillator, and medications daily, see that all equipment is present and in working order.
  • Assist with pre procedure planning and post procedure follow up, as needed.
  • Maintain the facility in a neat and orderly manner at all times.
  • Responsible when using Springfield Clinic computers and telephones as needed for patient care.
  • Proficient use of multiple computer systems relating to job.
  • Provide orientation/training to new technologists.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.



Education/Experience



  • Must be a graduate of a JRCERT approved school of Radiology and provide proof of current active certification with the ARRT.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Cardiac, Vascular, or Interventional Lab Technologist, with a strong background in cardiovascular imaging procedures.



Licenses/Certificates



  • Must maintain current active registration with the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) in Radiography.
  • Must maintain current active licensure in Radiology with IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Agency-Division of Nuclear Safety).
  • RCIS certification preferred
  • CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 90 days of employment

  • Able to work with arms above head.
  • Able to wear lead apron for long periods of time.
  • Able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to move mobile surgical x-ray equipment to various areas in the facility.
  • Ability to perform occasional heavy lifting, i.e. transferring patients to x-ray tables.
  • Able to assist with patient transfers and ambulation.
  • Possess manual dexterity to use keyboard and handle equipment and appliances.
  • Capable of pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, lifting and twisting.



Working Environment



  • Will be exposed to conditions including exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue, contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials.
  • Occasional heavy lifting required.
