Postdoctoral Research Associate - Chemical Engineering

General Summary of Position:

The successful applicant will conduct computational research in nuclear materials and advanced energy materials. The candidate will develop, train and test machine learning algorithms for performing materials simulations using methods such as dense neural networks, gaussian processes, and graph convolutional networks. Materials of interest include molten salts, which are used as a heat transfer fluid in advanced fission and fusion reactors, and doped ceramic materials for high-temperature electric-thermal energy storage. The candidate will help immediate supervisor in writing scholarly articles and proposals. Salary will be competitive and based on experience of the candidate.

The initial appointment will be for one-year year with a possibility of renewal based on the productivity and performance and the availability of funding.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:



  • PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, or related field


Skills:



  • Molecular dynamics simulation, Electronic structure methods (DFT), Thermodynamic modeling, calculation of phase diagrams, Machine Learning, High-performance computing


Additional Considerations:



  • Ability to work independently, with limited direction, as well as within a team environment
  • Ability to mentor and inspire students with limited research experience
  • Experience in nuclear materials and molten salt/ionic liquid chemistry
