Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Engineer to be based out Hobart IN, Pittsburgh PA, Dallas TX, or Harvey IL facilities. Reporting to the Director of Product and Business Development, this person will be responsible for working with Atkore development teams to innovative new products using simulation and modeling techniques to optimize product designs.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree within an engineering discipline along with at least 3+ years' experience running Finite Element Analysis. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:



  • Interpret analysis results and convert them to design recommendations.
  • Define applicable loads, load combinations, and failure criteria.
  • Make material recommendations to meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Minimize certification costs by supplementing physical testing with FEA.
  • Correlate physical lab testing and analysis results.
  • Identify material cost reduction opportunities to value engineer.
  • Participate and lead product design reviews.
  • Maintain FEM files and document results in PLM system.
  • All other duties as assigned.


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
  • Master's degree in engineering is preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience running Finite Element Analysis using Ansys LS-Dyna
  • Prefer experience with crash standards such as ASTM F2656/F2656M-20 Standard Test Method for Crash Testing Of Vehicle Security Barriers and ASTM F2656-07 Standard Test Method for Vehicle Crash Testing of Perimeter Barriers
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Solid Mechanics and Strength of Materials.
  • Product Development experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with manufacturing/product management/engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or other business system based company is a plus.


Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
  • Gain an understanding of your role, your team and department, and the various categories you'll manage.
  • Gain an understanding of the training materials and processes your role requires.


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Be championing and driving finite element analysis simulation projects execution for assigned projects.
  • Conduct explicit (Impacts, Quasi-Static etc.) and implicit (Structural, Thermal etc.) analysis based on project needs.
  • Utilized solvers such as Ansys Solvers (LS-Dyna) and preprocessor such as Ansys Discovery.
  • Completed at least 3 significant analysis for new product development.
  • Develop foundational knowledge for Atkore products and processes.


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Exposure to a variety of projects supporting all of Atkore. Performing simulation of various material: metals, plastics, and composites.
  • Working with engineering teams to simulate testing of new products according to standards ASME, UL, MASH, etc.
  • Be autonomously driving finite element analysis simulation of assigned projects expeditiously, smoothly delivering results through effectively influencing cross-functional team.
