Huntsman is seeking a Senior Design Engineer supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Merrimack, New Hampshire. This position will report to the Sr. Manager.

Job Scope

Assists in the development of new materials processing technologies and engineering aspects of carbon nanotube yarn and sheet production, post process engineering or other areas of the Company's development activities as assigned.

The engineer works closely with a cross-functional group consisting of marketing, engineering and manufacturing employees to conduct engineering design and development of prototype fixtures, electro-mechanical production equipment and processes. This engineer actively participates in product conceptualization, process development, tests, and evaluation. Receives engineering and managerial oversight from project leaders and senior engineers.

As the Senior Design Engineer, your essential functions and responsibilities will be:

  • Generates complex engineering CAD designs, test fixtures and prototype set-ups to validate product design assumptions related to project goals, incl. functional, cost, reliability, manufacturing and safety requirements, with minimal supervisory guidance.
  • Individual contributor performing assignments involving identification, assessment and development of technologies to provide solutions to identified problems. Develops new materials processing technologies and engineering aspects of carbon nanotube yarn and/or sheet production and post treatment engineering.
  • Competent in analytical engineering skills, calculations in static and dynamic electro-mechanical machine designs. Sets up prototype manufacturing equipment and conducts properties testing.
  • Maintains a laboratory notebook to capture data and relevant design characteristics with an eye towards repeatability of experimentation and for reporting results to senior staff.
  • Works independently and in groups to efficiently achieve project goals.
  • Researches scientific literature relevant to innovative design and testing objectives.

Other general responsibilities

  • Participates in Zero Harm initiatives as set forth by the company and division.
  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Assists other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.
  • Participates in and completes company-required training programs.

Required Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical engineering with 5+ years of related work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in machine design related to motion processes.
  • 5+ years of CAD / 3D modeling, preferably proficient in Solid Works & PDM.
  • Strong knowledge and use of machine shop tool operation preferable.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel & Word), MathCAD, Statistics, preferable.
