The Police Investigative Specialist position is a professional staff position within the Peoria Police Department. This position is a temporary, full-time, benefitted position and is part of a three-year pilot program. If the program proves successful, the position will become a full-time, benefitted position at the end of three years. This position is scheduled for four, ten-hour shifts and though assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division, will also work in the Patrol Division. This position performs the following tasks:



  • Responds to lower priority calls for service, collecting and preserving evidence, and as required, conducts criminal investigations on these calls for service.


  • Provides exceptional customer service.


  • Performs additional duties, as assigned.

  • A strong foundation in customer service, criminal and civil investigations and be detail oriented.
  • Adaptability to frequently changing tasks, balancing multiple priorities, and maintaining clear communication.
  • The ability to effectively manage time and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • The ability to balance working independently with collaborating as a unit and have demonstrated experience in building positive relationships.
  • A passion for law enforcement and making a positive impact on the community, as well as a commitment to teamwork and delivering excellent customer service.
