Summary:

The Science Media Fellow will support the Tangled Bank Studios Marketing, Communications, & Impact team to share content, stories, and campaigns across the digital space. They will have a background in developing and running marketing, advocacy or educational campaigns using compelling visual storytelling to build audiences and communities.

The Fellow will be knowledgeable about and genuinely interested in storytelling, science, and communication, and have experience using social media networks to build audiences and meet campaign goals.

What you'll do:

Social Media Content Creation & Platform Management

  • Create, post copy, and handle upload schedules for all Tangled Bank Studios and Wild Hope communications and social media channels.

  • Build visual assets and graphics for use across social media, marketing and promotional packets, and websites.

  • Work closely with the digital media & production teams to coordinate the production and release of social media videos.

  • Gather community analytics and compile findings in highlight reports.

  • Aid in the management of paid promotional campaigns and platform optimization.

Social Media Community & Partnership Management

  • Run community engagement for outreach projects and Wild Hope by moderating and responding to comments.

  • Seek and nurture opportunities for partnership and collaboration with other organizations, especially those focused on impact and engagement.

  • Lead the production and distribution of community newsletters.

Digital Media & Website Support

  • Handle digital video and image asset libraries in collaboration with the production and operations team.

  • Support the development and maintenance of website assets, including SEO and optimization, in coordination with the IT department.

Marketing Support

  • Manage and track assets and files (logos, images, awards laurels, press materials, promo stills, videos)

  • Prepare updates of media mentions/social media mentions/analytics for distribution across teams and to HHMI leadership.

  • Assist in the design and creation of print and digital ads, posters and other creatives.

  • Supporting digital marketing efforts, including the creation of e-mail signatures, newsletters, digital promo assets, and customized digital promo files.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, film studies, journalism, or science-related field or an equivalent combination of education and related experience

  • Two years of experience leading digital campaigns, building coalitions using social media as a primary tool with the ability to demonstrate growth and success at achieving campaign goals.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with a solid understanding of AP Style.

  • Experience in running social media campaigns, with an understanding of best practices for communication on social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter/X and YouTube.

  • Eagerness to stay current with industry trends in the digital world including social media trends, digital content trends, and digital content consumption trends.

  • Image editing skills (proficiency in Adobe photoshop, digital image manipulation).

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as needed in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Commitment to an internal and external culture of collaboration, respect, and support.

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet).

Compensation Range

$58,370.40 - $72,963.00 - $94,851.90

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
