Director of Community Standards & Accountability

The Director of Community Standards & Accountability reports to the Assistant Dean of Students. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive educational community standards program. This includes training students and other staff members on community expectations and Community Standards & Accountability procedures; reviewing and revising policies and processes in accordance with best practices, current trends, and the changing legal landscape of higher education; and providing educational programming in support of the College's commitment to accountability, productive civil discourse, and mutual respect which promotes the personal growth of our students.

Essential Functions:

1. Management:
  • Coordinates and oversees resolution of all disciplinary responses to allegations of violations of the Student Code of Conduct as documented in Incident Reports by Residence Life staff, Public Safety Officers, Student Center employees, or other referring parties;
  • Serves as a lead investigator for cases referred to the community standards process;
  • Manages the creation and maintenance of all community standards records through use of appropriate databases, primarily Maxient, and educates and monitors other community standards officers' record maintenance;
  • Engages in project management of special projects as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Students, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, and Vice President of Student Affairs & Dean of Students.

2. Training & Education:
  • Provides training on an ongoing basis for the on-duty staff in Residence Life & housing, Public Safety, and other campus partners on the community standards process and supervises the implementation of the community standards process by all Conduct Officers, ensuring the process is fair and developmentally relevant and valuable, through one-on-one communication;
  • Facilitates educational programming for students and other members of the College community on student community standards in an effort to promote accountability, productive civil discourse, and mutual respect;
  • Evaluates community standards processes, procedures, and programs; solicits input from community members, including students, on annual policy review, development, and revision;
  • Maintains up-to-date documentation of systems and protocols in Community Standards & Accountability for training purposes.

3. Administrative:
  • Serve in the Administrator on call rotation;
  • Responsible for the review, revision and dissemination of the Student Handbook, which outlines the code of conduct for all Curry College students, updating policies and procedures in accordance with legal and policy developments at the state and national level as needed;
  • Serves on committees geared towards student health, safety, and wellness issues such as alcohol, other drugs, and sexual assault prevention.

Additional Functions:
  • This position requires the ability to work additional evening and weekend hours to support a primarily residential campus and will be required to serve in the Administrator on-call rotation;
  • Supports Community Directors and other hearing officers manage their Community Standards case load;
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor of his/her designee.

  • Demonstrates ability to process information and hear cases with neutrality. An understanding of bias, privilege, and is comfortable working with people from different backgrounds.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs or related field and 4-6 years post-graduate experience;
  • Significant experience in student conduct administration required;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Student Development theory and practice;
  • Strong foundation of policies and procedures in accordance with laws including working knowledge of Title IX and ADA;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Successful experience in alternative dispute resolution, Restorative Justice, and Motivational Interviewing;
  • Working knowledge and understanding of student conduct databases required; familiarity with Maxient preferred.

Salary Range:

$70,000 to $75,000 annually
