Position Summary

The research specialist role contributes to the design, development and delivery of research projects and contributes to determining objectives and approach to research projects, presents results and publishes manuscripts. This position supports the Energy Resources Center's distributed generation team conducting analysis, drafting engineering studies, researching emerging technologies, and doing end user and stakeholder engagement and education.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the design, development and delivery of research projects.
  • May determine objectives and approach to research projects.
  • Presents results and publishes manuscripts.
  • Supports initiatives of the ERC per the direction of direct supervisor.
  • Regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment involving complex tasks with appreciable latitude for unreviewed action or decision-making.
  • Contributes material and assists in the writing of research findings for publications, papers, grants, and other documents for publication.
  • Supports the development of strategic relationships with external stakeholders and research partners.
  • Assists with tracking current developments and research to identify new project/program opportunities.
  • Oversees technical work of junior staff and students.
  • Collaborates with researchers to develop objectives and design of research projects and proposals.
  • Performs complex data collection and study methods, evaluation and analysis requiring use of independent judgment.
  • Improves on current methods, procedures and evaluates new methods.
  • Conducts advanced analysis of research data.
  • Develops advanced research protocols.
  • Supports the development of research ideas that lead into new fundable projects and programs for the ERC.
  • Assists in identifying and pursuing funding for the assigned technical programs/areas, including assisting in the preparation of proposals and supporting the establishment of proposal partners.
  • Identifies new research opportunities for other Center research areas.
  • Supports other Center research development opportunities per the direction of direct supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field required. Master’s degree in social science preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
  • Possesses and applies advanced knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
  • Designs and implements novel plans or approaches to meet project objectives.
  • Collects, analyzes, and summarizes data and presents results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organizes and maintains detailed records.
  • Possesses effective project management skills.
  • Possesses effective communication skills for meeting with clients, potential sponsors, staff, and/or training of students.
  • Has a minimum of 1 year experience modeling power generation systems.
