The Senior Ultrasound Technician in the Adult Echocardiography Laboratory is responsible for performing the full range of adult echocardiography procedures including, 2-D/3-D echo, stress echocardiography (exercise/pharmacological) and contrast echocardiograms in acute and outpatient care settings utilizing multi-vendor sourced equipment. This position requires certification as an RDCS or RCS. The Sr. Ultrasound technician is also responsible for maintaining a high standard of medical ethics at all times, is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve, and follow established examination standards that adhere to the policies and procedures of UCDHS and IAC. Clinical instruction of cardiac ultrasound students and/or Cardiac Fellows may also be expected and required per the Echo Lab Supervisor's discretion. Participation in lab sponsored events/demonstrations as requested. This position is Monday through Friday with varying hours between 6:30am and 6:00pm, weekend rotation, and holidays. Availability for mandatory overtime and assignment to perform echo procedures at the Primary Care Network (PCN) clinics maybe required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • American Registration for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification with applicable credential [Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS),
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • Must have graduated from an accredited Echocardiography program.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer in an acute care setting.
  • Ability to perform all requested 2D/3D echo, stress echo examinations as ordered by the Attending physician.
  • Ability to perform and understand advanced cardiac analytics: cardiac mechanics (strain), 3D/4D volumes and analytics as they become commercially available.
  • Have working knowledge of transesophageal echocardiograms, and ultrasound guided transcatheter therapies and structural heart procedures. Effectively operate ultrasound equipment. Have a working knowledge of different ultrasound systems. (i.e. Siemens SC2000, Philips-Epiq, CX50, iE33).
  • Prepares preliminary worksheet and contacts referring physicians when required, according to established protocols.
  • Coordinates with other staff to ensure appropriate patient care.
  • Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to resolve the problems appropriately. Organizes daily work schedules and performs related clerical duties as required.
  • The Sonographer assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the Echo Lab. Reports equipment failures to clinical engineering, then appropriate Supervisor or staff member. Provides in-service education on echo procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
  • Participates in establishing policies and procedures; participates in on-going continuous quality improvement as part of the IAC (CQI) requirement.
  • Participate in echo research projects.
  • Understand and utilize the organizational structure to benefit the Echo service and the hospital.
  • Performance of TTE and or exercise stress echocardiogram procedures in Primary Care Network (PCN) clinics as assigned.
  • Variable weekend, holiday rotation and mandatory overtime may be required. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
