Job Summary

Central Washington University is recruiting a Project and Outreach Supervisor (Program Support Supervisor 1) to join our KCWU team in Ellensburg, Washington. This role is an important member of our team assist with program objectives and coordinate engagement with external partners for KCWU radio at the university. The role is a campus-based position, which means you get to see the lives you are impacting. We're offering a salary, depending on experience, from $42,696 - $56,880 annually plus the awesome CWU benefits.

The Project and Outreach Supervisor will help foster and develop positive working relationships with organizations within CWU and the Ellensburg community as well as provide technical and creative support to students and staff in the station.

The Role:

The Project and Outreach Supervisor assists program objectives and coordinates engagement with external partners for KCWU radio. Initiates and processes client agreements; receives, logs, tracks, and invoices all engagement, promotion, and underwriting requests. Supervises student event support, video production, graphic design, and social media teams. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies, provides guidance and support to student trainees, production staff, and on-air talent. This position works closely with other professional and student staff within the office and the Ellensburg community to engage and involve CWU students in a wide variety of activities and opportunities outside the classroom. All employees are expected to support CWU's commitment to diversity and to bring and support inclusion into the university environment.

Job Duties

Supervision
- Supervise 4 to 6 student event support, video production, graphic design, and social media staff to accomplish program goals;
- Independently determine priorities for staff tasks and duties to ensure deadlines and goals are met;
- Identify, develop, propose, and implement professional development opportunities for student staff; work with professional staff team to plan and facilitate workshops and trainings for all KCWU staff;
- Actively engage in recruitment and hiring new employees;
- Clearly define performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provide ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Conduct formal performance evaluations;
- Ensure employees have necessary resources;
- Oversee and direct the work of staff; serve as mentor, coach and leader, and resolve complaints or issues;
- Promote professional development opportunities;
- Develop and foster supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement;
- Communicate information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community;
- Take corrective action in a timely manner;
- Recognize and reward employees for good performance;
- Schedule employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests;
- Adjust leadership style as needed to achieve results;
- Recognize value of and promote a diverse workforce. Value and encourage diverse perspectives, creativity, and teamwork.

Program Support
- Independently plan, organize, and prioritize work for KCWU;
- Promote and present KCWU services and packages to clients;
- Manage guide, and/or conduct event setup and support including audio and video equipment;
- Independently advise students, staff, program participants and/or the public regarding KCWU policies, procedures, and activities;
- Initiate staff-client meetings to review project and event details;
- Receive, log and track projects and event requests utilizing online system;
- Maintain ongoing communication with clients to ensure information is complete and accurate;
- Follow up with clients to keep projects progressing smoothly; advise other KCWU staff of potential issues or delays;
- Schedule and coordinate studio schedules;
- Work with staff and clients to finalize invoices and close out projects;
- Maintain records of projects and deliver final invoices to SURC Accounting for journaling.

Outreach Coordination
- Advise on and off campus groups of services, policies, and procedures;
- Supervise underwriting sales, announcement script writing, production, and scheduling;
- Promote and present KCWU services and packages to clients;
- Prepare reports;
- Make recommendations for improvements or efficiencies in areas of responsibility;
- Oversee efforts to obtain and track items for promotional giveaways such as concert tickets or gift cards to local businesses;
- Lead promotional efforts to encourage students to get engaged or interact with KCWU.

Departmental Support
- Assist staff in production and communicate tasks/work assignments as needed;
- Track and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies;
- Provide additional supervision to students when other staff members are away;
- Provide fill-in support in generating FCC reports and answering student technology questions;
- Attend KCWU and department staff meetings;
- Schedule and lead student staff team meetings;
- Serve as KCWU representative on committees for major university events and other university committees as assigned.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience or training that demonstrates the ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and/or similar software applications to produce written correspondence, create and maintain spreadsheets, receive, and respond to e-mail inquiries, tasks, etc.
  • Ability to effectively organize multiple work assignments and projects, involve competing priorities to produce work products that are accurate, of a high quality and meet deadlines
  • Experience leading or mentoring staff
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience working independently and with teams
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new and changing technologies
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field
  • Experience in radio, broadcast media, and/or podcasting
  • Understanding or familiarity of FCC guidelines
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, such as; hiring, training, reviewing, coordinating the work of others and setting priorities for staff
  • Experience with web and social media content management tools
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Audition, Premiere, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Experience with scheduling and coordinating advertising
  • A record of promoting inclusivity in the work environment
  • Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into everyday conversations

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: This position is based on the range 41 of the Washington State Classification Listing, which has a minimum annual salary of $42,696 and maximum annual salary of $56,880. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a busy office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to meet the physical demands of remaining at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, using repetitive arm, hand and finger movements. Some stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying, or moving of objects and other movements may be required. Some evening and weekend work, occasional travel, and work outdoors may be required, dependent on event schedule and department needs.
