This position represents and acts on behalf of Nurse Managers/Manager in all non-nursing functions for the Emergency Medicine umbrella. Responsibilities include long-range planning, oversight and coordination of multiple operational activities and services such as work space and move planning, procurement of complex and/or highly technical supplies, capital and non-capital equipment, capital improvement, equipment inventory, development and renewal of associated vendor contracts, general maintenance, specialized facility and department systems and operations, call center triage, tracking of repair services and development of policies, procedures and communications related to Emergency Medicine infrastructure and safety. The incumbent provides administrative supervisory operations to clinical HUSC employees, including human resources activities including participates in interview process and provides recommends, coordinates training, provides coaching, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions, completes forms and documents related to HR and Payroll units.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and/or equivalent education, experience and training.
  • Experience working in a health care institution or similar complex organization/industry.
  • Experience in Supervising Staff
  • Demonstrated planning skills to establish needs and resources requirements in order to make accurate projections
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills to evaluate program/staff needs, problem, train other staff.
  • Knowledge of cost effective management techniques around inventory, capital equipment and utilization.
  • Ability to research, collect, analyze and interpret data from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems/issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the internet to locate information, evaluate products, provide cost comparisons and download data. Ability to work independently, accurately and quickly on multiple assignments, with multiple deadlines, maintaining productivity and flexibility.
  • Knowledge and understanding of as well as the ability to interpret local, state and federal regulations (i.e., Joint Commission, Title XXII, Cal OSHA, State Department of Health, State Fire Marshall and Infection Control Standards).
  • Must possess skills and abilities to recognize facility malfunctions or unsafe practices and have demonstrated ability to effectively communicate department needs.
  • Expert knowledge of standard procurement procedures and comprehensive knowledge of the complex nature of medical supplies and equipment and their intended use.
  • Understanding of materials management practices in a healthcare environment including inventory and supply distribution, stock less, JIT and consignment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze construction and remodeling needs of hospital units and an understanding and comprehension to explain construction blueprints.
  • Ability to resolve problems with the least negative impact.
  • Effective listening skills with ability to collect information and understand what the speaker is conveying.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computerized systems such as Lawson, CAMS, Dafis and Decision Support, BEATS, Microsoft Suite, etc. to perform automated procurement functions, track equipment, depreciation and financial budgets, process electronic work orders, etc. to prepare reports, spreadsheets, work flows, etc.
  • Must possess willingness to learn new technology with an ability to quickly learn required applications to accomplish duties.
  • Strong presentation and training skills
  • Exceptional analytical, administrative and interpersonal problem-solving skills.
  • Must have interpersonal skills to facilitate communication and work of others.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with ability to write clear and concise emails, memoranda, project proposals, technical reports, policies and procedures, lead discussions, maintain appropriate and courteous interdepartmental communication, present information in a logical, concise and sequential order and deliver effective presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team management skills to work collaboratively with sensitivity and acceptance of individual differences in a diverse work force.
  • Demonstrated ability to display respect and maintain the confidentiality of all patients, physicians, and hospital-related information.

  • Demonstrated experience partnering and providing consultation to leadership and employees.
  • Experience in writing, translating and implementing policies.

Department Overview

Emergency Medicine provide Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma care for more than 33 of California's 58 counties. UC Davis Health System is home to state-of-the-art emergency care for children. Our Pediatric Emergency Department features the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in inland Northern California (verified by the American College of Surgeons). From Portland to Fresno, from outside the Bay Area to Reno, no other hospital in inland Northern California has a Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center servicing approximately 70,000 patients each year.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at UC Davis provides a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, 42 residents, and a total of 26 specialists of every medical and surgical specialty to treat critically ill and injured adults and children. Our team provides an extraordinary level of knowledge, skill and compassion to every patient we serve at our Level 1 Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion.

The Emergency Department is prepared and equipped to provide comprehensive and efficient emergency care to patients in need of medical and surgical specialty physicians to treat critical and acute illnesses and injuries 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Work Environment

Flexible working hours and may require at times to work early/late to meet departmental need as it's a 24/7 operating department. Position involves travel throughout the health system, sitting, and use of computer for extended periods. Ability to work flexible schedule and occasional overtime if needed.
