The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Subconsultant Engineer. This role will focus on supporting Ulteig's growth in subconsultant partnerships and will report directly to the Engineering Supervisor - Subconsultants within the Transmission & Distribution Department. The Subconsultant Engineer will work alongside the Engineering Supervisor - Subconsultants to help oversee and lead transmission line projects executed by subconsultant partners within the Power Lifeline sector and ensure that the projects, deliverables, drawings, and execution are in accordance with Ulteig's high quality expectations for engineering and client standards. The Engineer will also support training and development of the Subconsultant teams for client specific expectations.

What You'll Do

The Subconsultant Engineer acts as a technical leader and program manager for a portfolio of Subconsultant executed projects. They will help plan, schedule, and/or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work. They will provide oversight and reviews of the projects and may complete training related to the project, client standards, or perform quality assurance of the subconsultant's deliverables. The Subconsultant Engineer will help coordinate specific design aspects of a project and the individual will help to plan, schedule, conduct, and communicate work with team members. Provide technical guidance and feedback to other engineers, including subconsultant partners.

What We Expect from You



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required. ABET accredited program or equivalent required.
  • PE License strongly preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in the Transmission Engineering field
  • Effective leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Oversight, leadership, and quality review of subconsultant engineering design and project scheduling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications, time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong client engagement and relationship building skills to effectively build and maintain relationships with new/ existing clients and subconsultant partners.
  • Capable of leading a variety of transmission line projects with a multidiscipline team from full scope estimating and proposals, through detailed design, construction support, as-builts, and project closeout.
  • Capable of reviewing and producing design drawings, including structure framing drawings, plan & profile drawings, material specifications/orders, phasing maps, and construction specifications.
  • Capable of reviewing PLS-CADD models for the purpose of preliminary and detailed design as well as record drawings.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and Rural Utilities Service (RUS) design guide is a plus
  • Previous experience working with or for major power utility clients is preferred.
  • High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and highly responsive, internally and externally
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving standards.
  • Must have permanent authorization to work in US.
  • Ability to Travel up to 5%

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $97,800 - $130,000
* Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role
